Gary Gotschall Sr., 65, of Columbus, died Friday, Aug. 2, 2019, at Bryan Medical Center West Campus in Lincoln.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9, at Gass Haney Funeral Home, with the Rev. Adam Lassen officiating. The family will begin receiving friends at noon on Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus. Memorials are suggested as those of the donor's choice.
Gary Gotschall, Sr., was born July 20, 1954, in Columbus, to Gaylin and Dorothy (Anderson) Gotschall. He attended Columbus High School. Gary started working as a horse trainer and owner for roughly 15 years, both in Columbus and in Arizona. After moving back to Columbus, Gary started working as an electrician for Legenza Electric. He later went to work for Sand Livestock Systems as a journeyman electrician and then for Otte Electric.
In 1977, Gary was united in marriage to Cynthia "Cindy" Eby. To this union two children were born: Gail and Gary Jr. In 1983, Gary was united in marriage to Christine Odgaard in Arizona. To this union two children were born: Marin and Casey.
Gary enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, and was an avid horse racing fan. He was known for always having a good story to tell, but above all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren, which were the light of his life.
Gary is survived by daughter, Gail (Kevin) Peterson of Pacific Junction, Iowa; grandchildren: Benjamin, William, Axle, Oscar, and Mabel; son, Gary Jr. (Amber) Gotschall of Columbus; grandchildren: Emily, Abbie, and Ty; great-grandchild, Ayva; daughter, Marin (Doug) Zabka of Clarkson; grandchildren, Kayden Schumacher, Grant, Allisyn, and Kyson; son, Casey (Lindsay) Gotschall of Omaha; grandchildren: Carter and Clayton; mother, Dorothy Gotschall of Columbus; sister, Doris (Ken) Liss of Columbus; sister, Paulette (Bob) Evans of Denver; brother, Greg (Kathy Kamm) Gotschall of Columbus; sister, Pamela (Gail) Broxterman of Grand Island.
Gary was preceded in death by father, Gaylin Gotschall; first wife, Cynthia (Eby) Gotschall Zielinski; second wife, Christine (Odgaard) Gotschall.
