Jacquelyn Doughty Obituary

COLUMUBS - Jacquelyn "Jacky" Doughty, 85, of Columbus, Nebraska, loving wife and mother, went home to the Lord and the love of her life, Warner, on Sunday, February 2, 2014, at the Heritage of Bel Air in Norfolk, Nebraska.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2014, at 10:00 A.M. at First United Methodist Church, in Columbus, with Pastor Dusty Sprague officiating. Interment will be in the Dublin Cemetery, in Primrose, Nebraska.

Visitation will be on Saturday from 9:00 A.M. until service time at the church.

Jacky was born January 7, 1929, in Albion, Nebraska, to Leroy and Laura (Stalcup) Whitcher. She was born at Grandma Emma Roberts home. It was so cold that day that Grandma Roberts put Jacky on the oven door to keep her warm. Jacky grew up in Albion, and graduated from high school there. She worked at the theatre and laundry during high school. Jacky met Warner Doughty from the Cedar Rapids-Primrose area and fell in love with him. They were married on November 16, 1947, at the Methodist Church in Albion. They bought a farm by Primrose, raising their two children, Janet Lynn and Daniel Loyd. Jacky taught Sunday school at the Presbyterian Church in Primrose. She also belonged to the Ladies Aid at the Presbyterian Church. Jacky was a leader of the Cub Scouts. She and Warner were members of the Mariners Club and the Neighborhood Club. She stayed on the farm for 7 years after Warners death in 1986. After moving to Columbus, she became a member of the Red Hat Society, she also enjoyed shopping and visiting at Tooleys, the Salvation Army, and Goodwill. Jacky was always known as an incredibly stylish dresser.

Jacky is survived by her daughter, Janet (Dick) Burda, of Harris, MN; son, Dan (Ellie) Doughty, of Columbus, NE; grandchildren, Angie (Jim Riess) Burda, Susan (Charlie Kern) Burda, John (Amber) Doughty, Grace (Matt) Petersen; great-grandchildren, Alianna, Aiden, Wyatt, Kenzie, and one baby on the way; sister, Peggy Reid, of Spokane, WA; sister, Kathy (Ron) Olson, of Omaha, NE; cousins, Paul, Bill, Mary, and Sue Ann Roberts; brother-in-law, Bill (Mary) Doughty, of Belgrade, NE; and brother-in-law, Bill Garner, of GA.

Jacky was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy and Laura Whitcher; and husband, Warner Doughty.
