LINCOLN - James Albert Alt, 89, of Lincoln, (formerly of Columbus), Nebraska, passed away April 29, 2014, at Lancaster Manor in Lincoln.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 2, 2014, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Shelby, with Father John Rooney officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, May 1, 2014, from 4-6 p.m. followed with a 6 p.m. rosary at Dubas Funeral Home in Osceola. Interment will be in the Shelby Cemetery.
Dubas Funeral Home, of Stromsburg and Osceola, has been entrusted with arrangements.
James was born January 23, 1925, to Herman W. and Eva (Schott) Alt in Shelby. He attended school in Shelby. At a young age he started working on the family farm south of Shelby. For a short period of time he also worked on a ranch in Wyoming before returning to Shelby.
On November 28, 1944, he was united in marriage to Helen Irene Kubicek at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelby. They moved to Columbus in 1956, where James worked in the shipping and transportation department at Becton-Dickson until retiring November 30, 1988. Helen passed away in 1991. In 2011, he moved to Lincoln due to his health.
He enjoyed farming and watching western shows.
Survivors include his daughter, Beverly Konz, of Lincoln; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Amelia Zelensky, of Omaha; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; parents; two infant sons, Timothy and Steven; one brother, Emil Alt; and one sister, Agnes Oades.
