SCHUYLER - James W. Gerrard, 91, of Schuyler, died Saturday, March 17, 2012, at his home north of Schuyler.
Services will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 31, at the Clarkson Opera House in Clarkson. Committal will be a private family burial.
Visitation will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
Memorials are to the family wishes.
Lunch will be served at the Clarkson Opera House.
James was born Dec. 6, 1920, north of Schuyler to John and Mary (Bauman) Gerrard. He graduated from Schuyler High School. On Sept. 28, 1948, he married Irene Tuma at the Court House in Schuyler. He farmed north of Schuyler and was well known in the area as a local minister of Jehovah's Witnesses. Faith, family and farming was his life.
Jim is survived by eight daughters, Marilyn (Steve) Koson, Omaha, Mary Kay (Tony) Britto, Schuyler, Wanda (Paul) Stark, Loveland, Colo., Virginia (Dave) Matney, Omaha, Vanessa Martinez of Colorado, Janice (Rick) English of Gunnison, Colorado, Kathleen (Tom) Simanek, Wahoo and Tammy (Mike) Lewis of Schuyler; three sons, James Jr. (Joni) Gerrard, Schuyler, Tim Gerrard, Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Paul (Liesl) Gerrard of Schuyler; one sister, Isabelle (Lavern) Kracl of Schuyler; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Irene; one sister, Vera Heavican; and two brothers, Irvin and Melvin Gerrard.
