Kurt Pfeifer Obituary

Kurt Richard Pfeifer

August 16, 1954 - August 8, 2025

Kurt Richard Pfeifer, 70, of Gretna, Neb., died on August 8, 2025, at The Willows of Gretna nursing home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, August 16, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church in Humphrey, with Father Dan Wittrock as the celebrant. Burial will be at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in Humphrey. There will be a rosary on Saturday at 9 a.m. at the church followed by visitation until Mass time. The funeral will be live streamed on Kurt's obituary page on Facebook.

Kurt was born August 16, 1954, in Humphrey, to Bob and Lois (Reichmuth) Pfeifer. After graduating from Humphrey St. Francis High School in 1972, he attended Grand Island School of Business. He worked as a bookkeeper for various employers in Minden, Schuyler, Fremont and Omaha. His last employer was First Data in Omaha. Throughout his life, Kurt also worked for his Dad at Humphrey Radio & TV service. During his time in Humphrey, he served as a volunteer EMT for Humphrey Fire and Rescue and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Kurt enjoyed performing in community theater productions where he often stole the show with his comedic skills. He loved playing cards and attending family events. He became known as the best uncle ever one year when he brought a trunk full of candy to the family Easter gathering and gave it all away to his nieces and nephews. He was an excellent bargain shopper and loved a good sale and/or a successful dumpster dive. After suffering a stroke in 2015, he lived his final ten years in assisted living/nursing facilities.

Kurt is survived by his brothers, Lee (Lauren) Pfeifer of Concord, N.C., Steve Pfeifer of Alexandria, Va.; and sisters, Amy (Rich) Beran of Gretna, Neb., Beth (Chuck) Chevalier of Springfield, Neb. and Mary (Virgil) Preister of Humphrey, Neb.; as well as many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Kurt was preceded in death by his parents; two infant brothers; sister-in-law, Barb Pfeifer; and niece, Anne Marie Beran.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Humphrey Fire and Rescue or Humphrey St. Francis Catholic Church.
