COLUMBUS - Liana Spitz, 68, of Columbus, died Thursday, June 4, 2015, at Columbus Community Hospital.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Gass Haney Funeral Home with the Rev. Chris McArdle officiating. Private family interment will be at a later date. The family will receive friends on Monday from 5-7 p.m., and continue from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Nebraska Heart Institute.
Liana Spitz was born Jan. 28, 1947, in St. Paul, to Theodore and Grace (Feddersen) Kunze. She graduated from Kearney High School in Kearney. On June 7, 1965, Liana was united in marriage to Jimmy Spitz. The couple moved to Duncan in 1974, later moving into Columbus in 2002. Liana worked for JC Penny, Kmart, and retired from Husker Coop after 21 years where she was the bookkeeper.
Liana and Jim loved traveling and were able to visit all 48 continental states, and many parts of Canada. She enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles, golfing, going to casinos, and motorcycling. In 2012, Liana and Jim started spending the winter months in Arizona which she thoroughly loved. Liana and Jim would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday, June 7.
Liana is survived by husband, Jim Spitz of Columbus; daughter, Kris (fiancé Ellis Tinsley) Van Dyke of Columbus; grandchildren, Ashley (Derek) Smith of Liberty, Missouri, Nicole Van Dyke of Liberty, Missouri; great-grandchildren, Logan and Ellie Smith of Liberty, Missouri; daughter, Bobbi (Greg) Schomburg of Platte City, Missouri; grandchildren, Kylee, Morgan, and Bailey Schomburg of Platte City, Missouri; daughter, Tabetha "Tabby" (Curt) Vance of Olathe, Kansas; grandchildren, AJ and Zachary Vance of Olathe, Kansas; brother, Warren Kunze of St. Paul; sister, Selma (Earl) Ferguson of Nelson; brother, Willard (Carla) Kunze of Palmer; sister, Margaret Hansen of Brayton, Iowa; sister, Lavon (Chris III) Wunderlich of Gilbert, Arizona.
Liana was preceded in death by parents, Theodore and Grace Kunze, and brother, Darrell Kunze.
