COLUMBUS - Michael Shane Behnk, 11 1?2 months old, of Columbus, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009 at the Children's Hospital in Omaha.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 4 at First United Methodist Church in Kearney. The Revs. Gary Main and Bill Ritter will officiate. Interment will be 2 p.m. at the Greeley Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m., Tuesday at O'Brien-Straatmann Funeral Home in Kearney and one hour prior to service time at the church.
Michael was born Feb. 15, 2008 in Columbus, to Shane and Jennifer (Vogt) Behnk. Michael battled a rare chromosomal abnormality and underwent heart surgery soon after birth. After two months at the Children's Hospital, Michael was able to spend his final nine months at home with his family.
Michael is survived by his parents, Shane and Jennifer, and sister Olivia of Columbus; grandparents, Steve and Lori O'Brien and Don and Cathy Vogt, all of Kearney; Helen Behnk of Greeley; Michael F. Behnk and special friend, Sharon Rosander of Greeley; great grandparents, Dale and Dorothy McCammon of Kearney, Leatrice Behnk and Lorraine Bjorklund of Greeley; aunts and uncles, Aaron and Patti Behnk of Blair; Austin Behnk of Lincoln, Abbie Behnk and fiancee' Russell Kelley of St. Paul; Katie Vogt, Misty Lewandowski and Tim Vogt of Kearney, and Kim and Greg Jarecke of Grand Island; and numerous other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Charles and Rose Vogt, Al Behnk and Arnold Bjorklund.
Memorials are suggested to the Children's Hospital in Omaha.
