Mildred Cimpl Obituary

COLUMBUS - Mildred M. "Millie" Cimpl, 85, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017, at Columbus Community Hospital.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 13, at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus. The Rev. Charles Cimpl will be officiating. Interment will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be 3-4:30 p.m. Sunday at the church and 8-10 a.m. Monday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus. A C.D.A. rosary will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday immediately followed by a parish vigil service, all at the church.

In lieu of flowers on behalf of her great-grandson Sammy Nahorny's continued fight, Millie would want memorials directed to Sammy's Superheroes Foundation (2002 23rd St.; Columbus, NE 68601) in support of pediatric cancer research.

Mildred "Millie" Cimpl was born June 18, 1932, in Utica, South Dakota, to John P. and Christina (Becvar) Kortan. She grew up on a farm near Utica and graduated from Mount Marty High School in Yankton, South Dakota. On Aug. 9, 1949, Millie was united in marriage to Emanuel Manny Cimpl at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Tabor, South Dakota. She was very proud of her Czechoslovakian culture. Millie supported Czech Days, participated in the Beseda Dance and was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Tabor before moving to Nebraska in 1970.

Millie was very active in her church, both St. Bonaventure in Columbus and Christ the King in Las Vegas. She volunteered as a Eucharistic minister, delivered Communion to the hospital and hosted Bible studies. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America in Columbus.

She loved to travel, visiting historic sites like Israel, China, Japan, Europe, Northern Africa, South America and many places throughout North America. Millie loved to socialize and was an active member of dance clubs, bridge clubs and her beloved Perky Debs Extension Club.

She was an active golfer with leadership roles in local and statewide women and junior associations. Millie was a longtime member of the Elks Country Club in Columbus and Spanish Trail Country Club in Las Vegas. Finally, she lovingly "tolerated" the Cimpl Invitational Golf Tournament founded by her husband in 1972.

Millie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. Spending time with her family was her greatest joy.

She is survived by her son John (Marlene) Cimpl of Columbus; granddaughter Erin (Chris) Nahorny of Columbus; great-grandchildren Ella, Samuel and Jacob Nahorny; granddaughter Amy (Keith) Evans of Columbus; great-grandchildren Alex, Brennan and Avery Evans; granddaughter Jennifer (Scott) Bohn of Lincoln; great-grandchildren Grace and Caroline Bohn; granddaughter Megan Cimpl of Columbus; son, Dr. Richard (Nicole) Cimpl of Columbus; granddaughter Morgan (David) Collins of Kansas City, Missouri; granddaughter Madison Cimpl of Dallas; granddaughter Mackenzie Cimpl of Waco, Texas; son David (Laura Foley) Cimpl of Kansas City, Missouri; granddaughter Lauren (Anthony LaVita) Cimpl of New York; daughter Lori (Peter) Roberts of Mundelein, Illinois; and grandchildren William, Benjamin, Emma and Katherine Roberts.

She was preceded in death by her parents John and Christina Kortan; husband Emanuel Manny Cimpl; and brothers Mikel, Laddie, Steve and Daniel Kortan.

The family would like to express appreciation to the many caregivers who made Millie's final years comfortable, specifically Patty Cheloha, Carman Kordogiannis and the wonderful staff in the skilled nursing center on the third floor of Columbus Community Hospital.
