Reba West Obituary
March 30, 1933 - November 21, 2024
Reba "Ellen" West (91) was a much-loved sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. Ellen passed away peacefully at home in Cibolo, Texas with family members at her bedside. The weeks preceding her death after her diagnosis of cancer were filled with loving visits from friends and family members, she kept the faith and looked forward to meeting her savior Jesus Christ.
She was born to Dorothy Ellen (Beal) and Charles Ray Penington, graduated from Kramer High School in Columbus Nebraska and held an associate's degree in music. She played the piano from age 5 and was a piano teacher in her early adult years. Ellen was an accomplished seamstress and sewed into her 90s making quilts, she was an avid reader and usually had a book or two at her side and loved doing daily Bible study. Before meeting and marrying Richard "Dick" West on April 28th, 1984, Ellen was a single mother of five children. Ellen and Dick lived an adventurous life making their home in multiple states while they managed hotels to include Nebraska, Florida, Washington and Alabama. They loved to travel with their favorite destination being Hawaii. Ellen was a member of the Eagles Club in Columbus Nebraska was a Past President and Past Nebraska State Grandmother.
Ellen is survived by three sons and one daughter: Mike Rayman (Pam) of Lincoln Nebraska, Paul Rayman (Sandy) of Beech Grove Tennessee, George Rayman and wife (Becky) of Cibolo Texas, and JoEllen Gibbs of Aurora Colorado. She leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren and her sister Dorothy Ervin of Grand Island. Ellen is preceded in death by her husband, her mother and father, her brother's Charles Jr., Beal (Karen) Penington, her sister Jeanne Heinz, her daughter Denise Williamson and one grandchild.
Please join us in celebrating her life at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday December 11th, 2024 at Cibolo Valley Baptist Church in Cibolo, Texas or at 11:00 a.m. Friday December 27th, 2024 at Highland Park Evangelical Free Church in Columbus Nebraska. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to Royal Family Kids Camp (Christian camp for Foster Children) through Highland Park Church, Columbus NE.

We just came to know Ellen over the last year or so. She quickly became one of our favorite people. Ellen was a joy to be around and had a great sense of humor. We loved her very much and she will truly will be missed. However we look forward to the day we re-unite in heaven. Our prayers for peace and comfort to her family and friends. Love you Ellen...

My deepest sympathies to all of Ellens family and friends. She was an amazing friend to me and always like my own mother. She was an amazing lady. She was a collector of people. Always had an encouraging and loving word for everyone she spoke to. My whole family loved her so. We are better people because we knew her and her beloved husband, Richard, "Dick" West.
