Ruby Kay Meyer

May 5, 1940 - March 22, 2024

DECATUR - Ruby Kay Meyer, 83, died peacefully at her home in Decatur, Georgia on March 22, 2024.

Ruby was born on May 5th, 1940 in Greeley, Nebraska, to William and Ruth (Landen) Wegner. Ruby graduated from Columbus High School in 1958. Ruby met the love of her life Ron Meyer while taking dance lessons. Ron and Ruby wed in 1959 in Columbus and settled in Lincoln. They moved to Ralston in 1973 with their 2 children, Brian and Kendra. Ruby stopped working after the birth of her first child and dedicated her life to raising and supporting her children. Ruby returned to work after Kendra went to college and worked as a shoe salesperson and later as a home health aide.

Ruby was a devout Christian attending Lutheran churches in Omaha. She enjoyed leading Bible Studies. Ruby enjoyed reading, traveling, walking, cooking and socializing with friends. Ruby and Ron enjoyed attending community theater and concerts and visiting their daughter in NC, GA and AZ. In 2018, Ruby moved to Decatur, GA to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. Ruby was a pillar of strength for her family and friends.

Ruby is survived by her daughter Kendra (Dan) Rice, and grandchildren, Trevor and Caleb Rice. Ruby is preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Frerichs, and her father, William Wegner; husband, Ron; son, Brian; and sister, Ella Barjenbruch.

A Celebration of Life memorial service is scheduled at 2 PM, Friday, May 3, 2024. The service will be held at 1800 Clairmont Lake Decatur, GA 30033.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donating to the Parkinson's Foundation (www.parkinson.org).

We have fond memories of Ruby and Ron. They were wonderful assets to our Omaha church, Good Shepherd. They are now together again in heaven!

Prayers to your family at time. Your Dad- Ron was my Dad- Erwin Hecker“s cousin. I remember having many visits with Ruby at family get togethers.
