Clyde Meyer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Goettsch Funeral Home - Monticello on Mar. 17, 2026.
This may be a bit unusual, but I am writing my own obituary before I go.

I was born on December 2, 1932, in rural Shelby County, Indiana. My parents were Elva and John Meyer. There were two siblings already on the scene {a brother, Walter, and a sister, Helen.} In February of 1934 Verna was added to the family. I graduated from Walker High School in 1951, Valedictorian of my class.

In the fall of 1951, I began my college education at Iowa State University. I graduated from there with a Bachelor's degree in June 1955. (I also received a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army through the ROTC program). On the way, something very important took place. I had the good fortune to marry a great young lady, Roberta Jean Bolton, on March 20, 1954. We made the decision to stay in the Army, and I retired December 31, 1983, at the rank of Colonel. I spent 18 years assisting my brother-in-law, Art Burrichter, in his antique car business and served in numerous capacities (mostly volunteer) in the Monticello area.

I am survived by my wife Bobbie of 70 years, son Larry (Jeannie) Meyer, Daughter Teresa (Robert) Clemmons, and Daughter Sheryl (Bryan) Perkins. Grandchildren: Christopher (Carrie) Clemmons, Steven (Aimee) Clemmons, Jeffery (Jill) Clemmons, Allison (Jimmie) Brownlee, Lauri (Rayce) Stewart, Drew (Jacen) Petersen, Tiffany Perkins, Lacey (Josh) Patterson, 13 great grandchildren my sister Verna Burrichter, my brother -in-law, John Bolton and a host of friends.

I was preceded in death by my parents, my brother Walter Meyer, Sister, Helen Encinas, my brothers-in-law Art Burrichter, Lyle Watts, and Warren Bolton. Sisters-in-law Lucille Meyer, Patricia Bolton, and Barbra Bolotn, Niece Carol Shores, and Niece Sidney Grubbel.

My hobbies were making sawdust, writing songs and poems, performing with our family band, and public speaking.

Life is what you make of it and with God's help, mine was super.

"Until we meet again" "Be Of Good Cheer"

Col Clyde
