COLUMBUS - Wilfred A. Jahn, 83, died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2006, at Columbus Community Hospital.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, with the Rev. Tom Weisbecker officiating. Burial will be at the St. Bonaventure Catholic Cemetery, with military honors by the American Legion, Hartman Post No. 84 Honor Guard.
Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. vigil, and from 8-9:30 a.m. Friday, all at McKown Funeral Home.
Wilfred was born Oct. 12, 1922, in rural Osceola, to Joseph and Mary (Casterline) Jahn. He graduated from St. Bonaventure High School in 1938.
Wilfred was a member of the D.A.V. and a life member of the V.F.W.
Memorials are directed to the family.
Wilfred served in the United States Air Corp during World War II from Jan. 8, 1943, to June 6, 1945. He was Staff Sergeant and flew with the 15th Air Force as a 1st Flight Engineer and Gunner in the Italian Campaign. Wilfred was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation Badge, Air Medal, Purple Heart, and two battle stars.
Wilfred married Patti Hauserman on Nov. 28, 1945, in Scottsbluff, at St. Agnes Catholic Church. They moved to Columbus in 1946, where he was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church. He was employed with Greyhound Bus Depot for 20 years. Wilfred was an avid fisherman, hunter, and gardener.
Survivors include his loving wife, Patti; son and daughter-in-law, Steve (Joan) Jahn of Columbus; daughter and son-in-law, Connie (Ron) Gormley of Lincoln; son and daughter-in-law, Mike (Christine) Jahn of Las Vegas; grandsons and their spouses, Jeffrey (Amy) Jahn of Columbus, David (Jennifer) Jahn of Omaha, Mitchell Jahn of Columbus, and Parker Jahn of Las Vegas; granddaughter, Jennifer Borer of Lincoln; adopted grandchildren, Scott and Chrissy of Las Vegas; great-grandchildren, Joseph and Caitlin Jahn of Columbus, Taylor, Allie, Faith, and Megan Jahn of Omaha; brother, Marv Jahn of Columbus; sister, Rose (Don) Pratt of Livingston, Texas; nieces, Kathy LaCrosse of Ohio, Mary and Bill Sweeney; nephews, Kerry Gilbertson and David Pratt, both of Texas; and great-nieces, Lauren and Leah Sweeney of Texas.
Wilfred was preceded in death by his father and mother; infant brother; and nephew, Kevin.
