William "Bill" Conrad Ingold, 69, of Columbus, died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2019, at Columbus Community Hospital.
The funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 19, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus, with the Rev. Brandon Foster and Rev. Timothy White officiating. Interment was in the Columbus Cemetery, with military honors by the American Legion Hartman Post 84 Honor Guard. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 18, at Gass Haney Funeral Home, and continued from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Monday at the church. There was a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. on Monday at the church. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church or the American Legion.
William "Bill" Conrad Ingold was born Jan.14, 1950, in Columbus, to William John and Rosemary Dorothy (Glur) Ingold. He graduated from Columbus High School. On Aug. 23, 1969, Bill was united in marriage to Rita Mikkelsen at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus. Bill entered the United States Navy on Feb. 2, 1970, and was honorably discharged on Nov. 1, 1973. He was a Radioman 3rd Class Petty Officer and served at the Naval Communication Station in San Diego, and aboard the USS Cacapon (AO-52) in the Western Pacific during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Navy Achievement Medal.
Upon returning to Columbus after the war, Bill went to work for GTE for 27 years. After his retirement from GTE, he worked for RVW for eight years. Bill enjoyed fishing, baseball, woodworking – building toy boxes, shelves, jewelry boxes, etc. for his grandkids. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and Sertoma. He served on the Trinity Lutheran Church Council - property committee. He enjoyed refurbishing and flipping homes, and built four homes for his family.
Bill is survived by wife, Rita Ingold of Columbus; daughter, Melissa (Toby) Goc of Columbus; grandchildren: Emily, Mitchell, Carter, and Molly Goc; daughter, Meredith (Dan) Edwards of Columbus; grandchildren: Noah and Haley Edwards; brother, Robert (Carolyn) Ingold of Columbus.
Bill was preceded in death by parents, William and Rosemary Ingold.
