On the evening of December 4, 2015, Andrew "Andy" Elwood Tapper, Jr. passed peacefully at Siteman Cancer Center-Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri after a courageous battle with leukemia at the age of 67. Andy was born in Memphis, Tennessee on July 8, 1948 to Andrew Elwood Tapper, Sr and Alice Adams Tapper. Andy was a member of Carriage Hills Baptist Church in Southaven, Mississippi. His father, Andrew Elwood Tapper Sr, preceded Andy in death. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Lynda Hatcher Tapper, son, Christopher Andrew Tapper, daughter, Ashley Lynn Tapper Wilbourn (Adam), mother Alice Adams Tapper, sisters Donna Carey (Sid), Paula Spears (Dennis), and brother Martin Tapper. Andy was an industrial engineer, retired from the United States Treasury, and continued to work in kitchen design at Home Depot. Andy had a passion for sports, especially University of Tennessee football. He also enjoyed music, reading, traveling, and spending time with his family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 9 from 12 p.m. until the service begins at 2 p.m. at Twin Oaks Funeral Home in Southaven. Burial will follow in Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens in Southaven. Andy was a gentle soul and I know everyone that he met and worked with liked him. That's a rare quality that few people have. The world would be a much better place if more of us were as kind to others as Andy was.
