EDWARD MEIER Obituary

Edward Jesse Meier was born in New Madrid, MO September 29, 1917, and died of natural causes in Memphis January 19, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Olive Walker Meier; his daughter Amy Lyn Meier; his son Donald Edward Meier (Patsy); 3 grandchildren Lara Meier Arp, Molly Meier Darwin, and Edward Franklin Meier; and 8 great-grandchildren. His surviving sibling is Harriet Meier Callison. He was preceded in death by his sister Sephenia Meier Diebold and his brother Walter Louis Meier. Ed lived in New Madrid until he was drafted for WWII. His Army assignments included San Diego, New York, and Rio de Janeiro. While in the Army he married Olive Walker of Gideon, MO, and after discharge they moved to Memphis where they have lived for the last 67 years. He worked for Midwest Dairies and then with the Hull Dobbs Oakley Ford Corporation before opening his own dealership, Ed Meier Ford, in 1970. He was an active supporter of the Memphis State Athletic Dept. He has been a deacon at Highland Heights Baptist Church for the past 60 years. He worked for the last 30 years with the Cambodian Ministry at HHBC, helping immigrants adapt to their new life in Memphis. He was also a strong supporter of the Tennessee Baptist Boys Ranch. Ed will be greatly missed by all who knew him and will be remembered as a loving husband and father, a beloved friend, a fair and generous employer, a committed born-again Christian, and a man with a memorable warm smile for everyone he contacted. The family is grateful for the loving care given to Ed during the last years of his life by Dr. Hugh Overstreet and by Ed’s long-time home nursing assistants Carolyn Sims and Lucille Allen. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday January 21st at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar. The funeral service will be at the same location at 10 a.m. Tuesday January 22nd. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Tennessee Baptist Boys Ranch, 9248 Quito Rd, Millington TN or Highland Heights Baptist Church, 675 National Ave, Memphis TN 38117. Mr and Mrs Meier taught me at different times in the youth department in Sunday School and Training Union at Highland Heights Baptist Church. I still remember them as good, warm and generous teachers, friends of my family and wonderful role models while I was growing up. I am proud and blessed today to have had them as teachers and am thankful they were in my life. Also thankful and appreciative of their friendship with my parents, Olin and Wanda Richards. Ed will be missed.

Mrs. Meier & Family Mr. Meier was a fine man. He always had such a wonderful smile and a kind word for everyone. I always enjoyed working with Mr. Meier at my Father's business, Sadler Dist. Co. I also remember the days at Midwest when I was a child. My Dad thought so much of him not only as his Sales Manager but a wonderful friend. I know he will be greatly missed. Our prayers are with you at this difficult time. May God bless you.
