Haignaoush Yacoubian

Haignaoush Yacoubian died Saturday after a brief illness. She was predeceased by Khatchik Yacoubian, her loving husband of 54 years. Mrs. Yacoubian was matriarch to a large family including five sons: George (Julia) of McDonough, GA; Nubar (Diane); Daniel (Donna); Berje (Kathy); and Jack (Melody), all of Memphis. She is also survived by her 15 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Yacoubian leaves two sisters: Azad Kushturian of Sydney, Australia and Arshaloush Mahseredjian of Amman, Jordan. Mrs. Yacoubian was born in Jerusalem of Armenian parents. With the help of several well-traveled Southern women, the Yacoubian family was sponsored to come to the United States in 1968, settling in Memphis. Vigorous and intelligent, Mrs. Yacoubian could debate politics one moment and describe Middle Eastern cooking the next. In her later years, she learned hundreds of Bible verses that she could recite from memory, in Armenian. Mrs. Yacoubian never stopped thanking God for being together with her family in the United States, after the difficulties of living in the Middle East. Visitation will be at Memorial Park on Monday, December 22, 57 p.m. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, December 23 at 11:30 a.m., also at Memorial Park.
