PATRICK CRUMP Obituary

Patrick Metcalf Crump, 44, died May 15, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was a friend to many and was known for his commitment and devotion to his family, for his passion for life, his readiness to help a friend or stranger, his integrity and strength of character, and his strong Christian faith.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Charles and Diana Crump of Memphis and Claude Robin of Paris, France. He is survived by his loving wife Holly Liles Crump, daughter Taylor Temple, 10, son Charles Metcalf III, 7, mother Michele Robin Crump, father Charles Metcalf Crump, Jr., all of Memphis, brother Stephan Crump (Jen,) nephews Maceo and Van of New York, and grandmother Yveline Humbert of Paris. Other survivors include Laurence Ritter and Patrick's stepmother Madeleine Crump and stepsister Olivia DeLozier.

Patrick attended Presbyterian Day School, Memphis University School, The Webb School, and University of Tennessee at Knoxville. He earned a Bachelor of Science, Business Administration in Finance, Magna Cum Laude, from Christian Brothers University. As a successful Real Estate Agent for over 20 years and owner of Crump Group of Memphis, he was a Life Member of the MAAR Multi-Million Dollar sales club and served on various boards and committees of the MAAR.

Patrick's community service includes his many years of support and leadership in The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis where he was a Board Member and Past Chair of the Goodwill Club. Patrick's commitment to the Boys and Girl's Club began with his membership in the Phoenix Club of Memphis where he was a past Board Member. Patrick was also a member of several organizations within Carnival Memphis, which raises money for various children's charities. Patrick's other volunteer efforts include Hands on Memphis, MPACT Memphis, Habitat for Humanity, Memphis In May, AutoZone Liberty Bowl, and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Patrick was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, sailing, and scuba diving. Many an afternoon was spent fishing with his children on the family lake in Hardeman County. A talented musician and guitar player, Patrick was a founding member of the band Walrus who played their 10 year anniversary gig this past August. Patrick was an accomplished skier, where he spent his childhood years skiing in his mother's home country of France. A member of the Memphis Country Club, Patrick also loved to spend time continually improving his golf game. Patrick was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church where he was an Usher. Also known for his love of cooking and "world-famous" hot wings, Patrick's college football parties will be sorely missed.

Patrick touched so many people in his all too short lifetime. He will leave a void in our hearts but his legacy of love and laughter will live on.

Following ancient custom, we will sit vigil with Patrick's remains in the Church, beginning with prayers at 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 18, continuing until 7 a.m. on Monday, May 19. Enter the Church at anytime during the night under the port-cochere in the parking lot off Central Avenue.

There will be a Memorial Eucharist at Saint John's Episcopal Church, 3245 Central Ave, at 9 a.m. Monday May 19, 2014. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. A private burial will be held at Elmwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Patrick asked that memorials be sent to The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Memphis.

Met and Michele,
I only met Patrick as a young boy at Teresa and Granville's. My heart goes out to you for losing your son at such an early age. It sounds like he was a wonderful person and that is really all we can ask for... to be our best in this life.

My sincerest sympathy to you and your families.

Sincerely,
Barbara Cummings Mullen, St. Louis, MO (Teresa Taylor's sister)

Michele, We stayed close to God- only asking for one day at a time. We asked God to help get thru that day- and we asked God to heal Patrick- we didn't know how He would do that. You know that you are in my heart and my prayers- along with Holly and the entire family right now. Praying for the peace and comfort - that passes all understanding- that only comes from peace in God and with God. My love to you all- Sharon Tyson- from Waddell & Associates Family

All of Heaven is rejoicing as a glorious angel has entered its gates.
Patrick Crump has left this earth but not our hearts. He will most certainly be missed but his imprint on this community, and his love for his family and life, will forever live on. All those who were blessed to know him are forever changed by his examples of great leadership, friendship, civic duty and humbleness. We shall all strive to meet his mark and are better people for knowing him.
May God bless his family in these difficult days to come. May they find peace and strength to endure this life without him. And may Patrick continue to do his great work through us, as we celebrate his life and the difference he made in the lives of others.
What a remarkable gift God has so graciously shared with us...
Patrick, you will be missed.
For the Crump family...
We send you our love and prayers.
Rest in peace sweet Patrick...
Stacie and David Waddell and your Waddell family

Met and Michele,
Granville and I were much saddened by the death of your Patrick!
We knew him as a precious baby, and watched him grow all the way up through some of his teen years. What a wonderfully giving, courageous, sensitive adult he became as a civic leader, husband, father, and finally cancer victim.
How proud you must be of this amazing person you created!
We hope you will convey to your whole family our deepest sympathy for the greatest loss a parent and family can sustain. We will keep all of you in our prayers.
While his absence on earth is painful, Patrick is at peace in the arms of our heavenly father, and our hope is for God to bring you to a level of peace and comfort through his love and mercy.

Fondly,
Teresa and Granville Taylor

I was privileged to know Patrick through my son, William. One contact with Patrick was enough to immediately let you know that this was a special human being. Over the ensuing years, this first impression was reinforced time and time again. Sleep well and God bless.
