ROY DICKERSON Obituary

Roy S Dickerson, of Cordova, TN, crossed over to his heavenly Father on December 22, 2009. There he will be with his parents, Roy Simons Dickerson and Essie Dickerson. Roy is survived by his loving wife of sixty-three years, Betty Crockett Dickerson; and his children, Larry K. Dickerson of Fort Mill, SC and daughter, Karen Paessler of Germantown, TN. He is grandfather to four young men and great-grandfather of four. As a member of the United States Army, Mr. Dickerson survived the World War II with honor and distinction. He met his loving wife just prior to enlisting in the Army and they married at the conclusion of the war. He attended the University of Mississippi. For at short time he worked for the railroad and then began a distinctive career in photography. He first worked for WHBQ and in 1956 was among the first employees of WREC-TV and continued with the station for the next thirty-one years. He had many interest that included woodworking, leather work, aviation, stain glass artistry, gold and silver jewelry making, clock and watch repair, and ham radio. However, his most satisfying activity came from his years with the Civil Air Patrol. In those years he spent many hours each week with young people from the ages of 14 to 18. He guided many to lives of success. The local squadron competed for many local and national honors as individuals and as a team. Many gained private pilots licenses, many won scholarships for college or were able to realize military careers. One became a director of a national nuclear agency, another a Col. in the US Air Force, another is a physician/attorney for the center for disease control, others are educators in local universities, and the list goes on. He was truly a man among the youth of this community. Visitation will be 9 a.m. and service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 26th at Forest Hill East Funeral Home with burial following. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorials be sent to Methodist Hospice, 6423 Shelby View Drive, Suite 103, Memphis, TN, 38134. Forest Hill East Funeral Home 901-382-1000
