SEYMOUR ROSENBERG Obituary

Seymour S. “Sy” Rosenberg died Saturday, July 23, 2011, at his home after a long illness. He practiced law for over 50 years and his passion for music and entertaining spanned his entire lifetime. Seymour “Sy” Rosenberg was a fixture on the Memphis music scene for more than 50 years -as a musician, impresario, producer, publisher, manager, and music business attorney. His clients were as diverse as the rich musical heritage of Memphis itself - from Charlie Rich to Rufus Thomas. In his later years he was an integral part of the Memphis Jazz Orchestra and the Bartlett Community Band. He is survived by Barbara York Rosenberg, his wife of 20 years; his sister, Saralyn Weiss; five children, Susan Rosenberg Tobey, Gary Rosenberg, Jeffrey Rosenberg, Diane Willner, Jason Rosenberg and seven grandchildren. Services will be held on Monday, July 25, at 3 p.m. at Anshei Sphard Cemetery, 2160 Airways Blvd. Shiva will be observed throughout the week at the home of Jeff and Sally Rosenberg beginning at 2 p.m. each day. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Memphis Music Foundation via www.memphismeansmusic.com or the charity of your choice. Canale Funeral Directors 901-452-6400

Sorry to learn of the loss of Seymour dime years back. I had occasion to know him during my time as a banker in Memphis with the former FNB of Memphis in the mid 70´s. He was also the manager for Charlie Rich at that time, and Mr. Rich did some business with the bank through Seymour´s guidance.

Seymour and his cigar were inseparable! He always handled his business as agreed. We were acquaintances even before he took on the "Sy" nickname. Colorful character in the Memphis music scene for sure!
