SUE DODD Obituary

Sue Oglesby Dodd, 83, passed away June 3, 2014. Sue was a distinguished, award-winning realtor in the Memphis area for over 50 years. Active and engaged in the business to the very end, she closed her final two properties a month before she died. A great lover of all holidays and special occasions, over the years Sue hosted hundreds of breakfasts and dinners, and will be remembered for the taste and style with which she entertained. Her door was always open. Modest and self deprecating, she never sought the spotlight, but took pride in the accomplishments and successes of her friends and family. The light of her compassionate, loving spirit burns bright in all of us who were lucky enough to know her. We grieve her passing, but rejoice in the full, rich, generous life she lived. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Leigh (Greg); sons, Mike Oglesby and Randy Oglesby (Ruth); twin sister, Lou Tignor; brother, Jim Grissom (Wanda); grandchildren, Lily Hayes (Josh), Katri Howell (Josh), Oona Oglesby, Rachel Leigh, and Max Leigh and great grandchild, Ben Hayes. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until the service begins at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 7 in the Wilson Chapel at Christ United Methodist Church ,of which she was a member for more than 60 years. She will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery by her beloved spouse, Lloyd "Bear" Dodd. Memorial Park Funeral Home, "Behind the stone wall", 901-767-8930. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this difficult time. Sue was a wonderful woman and will be missed by all who knew her. She will forever be remembered by me as helping me purchase my first home and guiding me in the right direction! I see the testament of the kind of mother and woman she was in the actions and life of her daughter, Susan. May she be playing bridge in the "big game" in heaven!

So sad to think I will never see Sue again. She was a remarkable woman -- loving, bright, kind, and more fun than a barrel of monkeys. She has a wonderful family, which is all the more to her credit. Sending lots of love to all of you.

Susan, thank goodness we were all beneficiaries of the legendary Ms O's wit and charm. She was a woman to break the mold and set the pace for the rest of us. I am thinking so fondly of her, you, and your family.

You know I am devastated by the loss of my Sweet Sue. Never have I had a friend who loved me so much and never have I had a friend who I adored so much. I am sad that I am in Germany at the time of her passing and cannot be with friends and family to cry and laugh and celebrate her precious life. There will never be another like her and she will be a very special angel. My life will have a huge void that cannot be filled by any other. Sweet Sue was so very special.
