Betty Bennett Eberhart Obituary

Betty Lee Bennett Eberhart died peacefully at home, surrounded by her children and grandchildren in Concord, New Hampshire on Monday, July 23, 2018. She was 90 years old.

Betty was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Warren Eberhart, and her son, Eric Bennett Eberhart. Betty is survived by five of her children and their families: her son, Robert Edward Eberhart, daughter-in-law, Eileen, their children Kristin, Eric and Max Eberhart; daughter, Lisa Bennett Eberhart and her sons David and Brooks Wood; daughter, Ellen Dixon Eberhart and her sons, Nate, Stu and Bennett Mosseau; son, David Warren Eberhart, daughter-in-law Amy Meyer and their children Nicole and Erika Eberhart, Charlie Eberhart Meyer and Tanner and Claire Boucher; and daughter, Sarah Lee Eberhart and her sons, Peter and Nicholas Wells.

Betty and Warren raised their six children in Concord, New Hampshire, before moving to Hopkinton in 1988. Most recently she resided at Heritage Heights in Concord. Betty's greatest joys were her children, grandchildren, and spending time at Lake Sunapee and on Star Island. Betty graduated from the Dalton School in New York City in 1946 and Sarah Lawrence College in 1950. She received a Masters in Counseling Psychology from Antioch University. After receiving her Masters Degree, Betty began working as a licensed psychotherapist, focusing on families and children. Betty received a Certificate of Volunteer Administration and was instrumental in the establishment of CCMHC, now known as Riverbend, where she ran the volunteer program. Betty was an active member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Concord, through which she began volunteering with refugee families in the Concord area. Betty was active in politics throughout her life, specifically as a member of the League of Women Voters, hosting numerous political events for candidates for public office, including Eugene McCarthy and George McGovern. Betty ran for NH State Senate and was an alternate delegate for the 1968 Democratic Convention.

She is lovingly remembered for her active intellect, fiery spirit, and unconditional love for her family and friends.

We are sincerely grateful for the guidance and support provided by Havenwood Heritage Heights and Hospice Services.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday July 29, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church at 294 Pleasant Street, Concord New Hampshire. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Betty's honor may be made to Planned Parenthood of New England, The Concord Regional VNA Hospice House and Riverbend.

Lisa and family: As you know, Betty and I were dear friends for half my life and a third of hers. I returned from a trip to Scotland on Sunday night the 29th to the message that she had crossed. I keep thinking about one of my favorite lines from "Fried Green Tomatoes": "A lady always knows when to leave." Love to all of you and great gratitude for your mom's life.

I first met Betty when she was involved with Head Start at the Presbyterian Church years ago and then again at Concord Mental Health Center that she helped start. She had a heart of gold and helped erase the stigma of 'mental health' throughout the community. Betty will surely be missed by the community. My condolence to Betty's family and friends.
