Cecelia Scannapieco Obituary

Cecelia A. Scannapieco

Concord, NH - Cecelia Scannapieco, of Concord N.H. died peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on September 6, 2025.

Cecelia was born in the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn New York, on January 11, 1946. Her parents were John and Angelina DeLiso. She lived most of her adult life in New Hampshire, where she raised her four children: Peter, Angela, Michelle and Brian.

Cecelia dedicated her life to the care of others. In addition to her work as homemaker and mother, Cecelia volunteered with the Concord Police Department to advocate for victims of rape and domestic violence, and for families victimized by homicide. She was on call to take battered women to safe houses. She was a teacher in a halfway house program called Price of Freedom where she helped prisoners learn how to hold jobs, find a place to live, and cope with life outside.

Cecelia is survived by Russell Flanders, her loving partner of 49 years, by her daughters Angela and Michelle, and by her son Brian. She is predeceased by her son Peter. Cecelia had 5 grandchildren: Tyler, Mariah, Jason, Brandon, Matthew, and five great-grandchildren: Rylee, Luca, Carmina, Elliot and Anthony.

She will be missed by her friends, her family, her partner, and by her pet parrot Amadeus. But we will all remember her warmth, her caring, her smile and her sense of humor. She was our compass. She leaves this earth with the love of all who knew her.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday September 12, from 5 to 7pm, at the Waters Funeral Home, 50 South Main Street, Concord.

A Graveside service on Saturday, September 13 at 10:30 AM at Blossom Hill Cemetery, in Concord.

Aunt Cecelia was one of a kind. Such a large light that shined from such a small frame, beautiful inside and out. Always presented herself in such a magnificent way. The best did it for fun- interior designer I have ever met, could make anything look glamourous.
So patient and kind with all things, human or feathered.
I remember she could be feisty- the New Yorker in her would come out and it still makes me smile thinking about it.
She was the person to discover my birthmark as I lay in her arms just hours old.
She used to always tell me I wasn't allowed to be taller than her and with her taste in shoes, I never was.
There is not a memory of Aunt Cel that isn't happy or beautiful in some sense. That shows such an unspeakable reflection on her and the love she radiates.
Gone for now but never forgotten, so until we meet again, I love you. ❤

“What we have once enjoyed deeply we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us.” — Helen Keller

My heart aches to hear this news about beautiful Cecelia. Way back, my Mama had Peter as a student at RJHS. The two of them had an incredible trust and nobody made her laugh harder. Years later, Mama hired Cecelia to clean our home. She was sooo much more than that! She was a designer! She often rearranged things and without doubt our home looked better. I loved talking with her. She was beautiful inside & out, had wisdom, warm hugs, and a sparkle in her eyes.

When Peter died, Mama called her & had a long phone call with her. Afterwards, Mama broke down sobbing.

The next day I called Cecelia with shaking legs not knowing at all what to say. I was in my early 20´s. She answered & all I had to do was tell her who I was and that I didn´t know what to say but I loved her. We stayed on the phone for quite some time. We shared Peter stories ( mine via Mama) and she just cried and laughed calling me "honey" throughout.
Sending strength to all who were blessed to be loved by Cecelia.
