Charles Webb Obituary

Charles Conway Webb passed away Sunday morning, Jan. 21, 2018 in Richmond, Virginia.

He was born August 1, 1932, in Concord to the Reverend Charles Thomas Webb and Ann Carter Moncure Webb. He spent his childhood at St. Paul's School in Concord and then attended St. Mark's School in Southborough, Massachusetts. He went on to receive his Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University in 1954, after which he served in the U.S. Army as an Intelligence Specialist. Upon completion of his service, Charles attended the University of Virginia School of Law and began practicing as a trust and estate attorney.

Charles was dedicated to the families he served throughout his career. He was an associate at The Musselman Law firm in Charlottesville before joining McGuire Woods, where he became a partner and remained until he retired from practicing law. At that time, he joined Kanawha Capital Management. Upon his retirement from Kanawha, he worked as a trustee for several estates through October of this year.

Charles lived a full life and had many interests. He was an avid reader and loved the New York Times crossword puzzle. He loved to cook and was studious in his approach, subscribing to and keeping all issues of Gourmet Magazine from 1965 until recipes became available online. He played tennis and squash, the latter well into his seventies. He loved to hike, spending lots of time on trails in both the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia, and White Mountains of New Hampshire.

He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Sterling Webb, of Richmond, Va.; children: Rebecca Webb Easterby, of Houston, Texas, and Peter Franklin Webb, of Williamsburg, Va.; siblings: Sally Lent Keat and her husband, James of Silver Springs, Md., and Richard Cassius Lee Webb and his wife, Anne of Jaffrey; grandsons: Christopher Conway Easterby and William Abbot Easterby, both of Houston, Texas; and his former wife, Mary Lee Teel Webb; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters: Anne Webb Moses and Katharine Webb Walker; and daughter, Lee Carpenter Webb.

There will be a memorial service celebrating Charles' life at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 12291 River Rd., Richmond, Va. 23238, at 3:00 p.m., on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers anyone wanting to make a donation, please do so to Goochland Free Clinic and Family Services at 3001 River Rd. West, Goochland, Va. 23063.
