David Levesque Obituary

David Edmund Levesque

Concord, NH - David Edmund Levesque, age 70, died suddenly at his home in Concord, NH on February 14. He was born in Concord on September 17, 1954 to the late Rosilda D. (LaFlamme) and Cyprien M. Levesque.

He leaves behind his wife of almost 41 years, Patricia (Fletcher) Levesque; his son Justin Levesque; sister Annette Harney and her husband Dennis; niece Emily Harney and her husband Jesse Devine and their children Raymond and Miriam; and several cousins, including Paulette Laramee.

He was predeceased in 2013 by a brother, John "Jack" Mayhew.

After graduating from high school in 1972, David joined the Air Force. He was selected to attend the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center at the Presidio in Monterey, California. He was then stationed in Crete, Greece as an Arabic translator, where he achieved the rank of sergeant.

After his release from active duty in 1977, he attended the University of New Hampshire and graduated from St. Anselm's College. He worked for a few years at Concord Public Library, where he met his wife. In 1985 he joined the staff at Sheldon Library at St. Paul's School. When a new library was built in 1991, he played a large part in the move-in process and then also earned his Master of Library Science degree. During his years at these two libraries, he served as cataloger/reference librarian/archivist. He retired in 2020.

David spent many happy hours in his basement "studio", singing and playing guitar and piano. He also loved chatting with his online music friends, where he was known as Shakeydave. Time was also devoted to serving as the president of his condominium association.

David was a good man who loved his family. He was much loved by us and we will miss him greatly.

No services have been scheduled at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Friendly Kitchen, 2 South Commercial St., Concord, NH.

Dear Pat and Justin, I am deeply saddened to hear that David has passed. I always thought that he would just live on and on like a strong oak tree. I remember so vividly his sitting just behind me at a Joan Baez concert years ago ( you were there too, Pat), and I can still hear him softly, blissfully singing along with her. He truly loved music and adored his family. You were both his greatest treasures in life (although arguably he cherished his companionable guitars as well!) To all who knew him at Saint Paul´s School, David was a kind, gentle, and enormously gifted librarian/archivist. I enjoyed working closely with him at Ohrstrom Library, where daily I found inspiration in watching David lead with his heart and his deep understanding of what matters most in a fully-realized life.

I worked as a teacher at St. Paul's School for 34 years and remember David well. He was always most helpful whenever I had to use the library, even after I retired. I was unaware of his language skills as my daughter, Rebecca - SPS '91, also learned Arabic at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey. She's now a Major in the Army National Guard and heads a unit of linguists. I'm so sorry for your loss and offer my deepest condolences to your family.

This news makes me incredibly sad. I worked for years with David at St. Paul´s. He was a kind and thoughtful person, and was so good at his job. He helped me many times on research projects, and I always appreciated his quick replies and willingness to help. He made everyone´s job easier and was so pleasant to work with. Sending love to his family and friends. I am thinking of you.

My heart aches hearing this news. David was such a kind man and wonderful coworker. He and I connected over our love for music. He would often pop into my office with an article or story relating to a favorite musician. Anytime I go to The Tupelo Music Hall, I give a scan around the building to see if he is there, as I know he frequented the venue. I´m so glad I got to know David. May he rest in peace.
