Diane Carignan Obituary

BRISTOL - Diane L. Carignan, 48, died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011. She was born in Laconia, the daughter of Arthur Carignan and Donna Perry. Diane grew up in Franklin and lived in Concord, Manchester and Bristol.

Diane was proudly working toward obtaining her GED. She had a strong voice as a self-advocate in New Hampshire and served on several boards and committees to stand for the rights of people who experience disabilities. Diane was a co-founder of People First of New Hampshire, worked with the Lakes Region Self Advocacy Group, NH Leadership and in recent years held several positions on the board of directors of the Disability Rights Center of New Hampshire.

Diane loved her job for the Newfound Area School District at Project Promise. She enjoyed shopping and yard sales with her mother and fishing and boating with her stepfather. Going to Funspot, camping, NASCAR and reading were all passions of Diane's. She especially had been looking forward to a trip to California this spring to visit her brother and swim with the dolphins.

Diane leaves behind many family and friends who will dearly miss her frequent phone calls. She is survived by her mother and step-father Donna and Robert Nesteruk of Bristol; father and step-mother Arthur and Carol Carignan of Tilton; sister Brenda McIntire of Plymouth; brother Chris Carignan of San Diego, Calif.; maternal grandparents Alonzo and Carol (Adams) Perry of Boscawen; step-sisters Ann Learned and Susan Colby, both of Bristol; Kelly Garcia of Los Angeles; step-brother John Nesteruk of Hill; longtime friend Mark Dickenson of Concord; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Memorial calling hours will be held Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Emmons Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St., Bristol. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the People First of NH, 4 Park St. Suite 304B, Concord, NH 03301 or at peoplefirstofnh.org.

God's Lent Child
God's Lent Child - Unknown

"I'll lend you for a little while
A child of mine" God said -
For you to love the while he lives
and mourn for when he's dead.
It may be six or seven years
or forty two or three
but will you, till I call him back,
take care of him for me?

He'll bring his charms to gladden you
and, should his stay be brief,
you'll have his nicest memories
as solace for his grief.
I cannot promise he will stay,
since all from earth return
but, there are lessons taught below,
I want this child to learn.

I've looked the whole world over,
in my search for teachers true,
and from the things that crowd life's lane
I have chosen you.
Now will you give him all your love,
nor think the labour vain,
nor hate me when I come to take
this lent child back again?

I fancied that I heard them say,
"Dear Lord Thy Will Be Done"
for all the joys thy child will bring
the risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter him with tenderness,
we'll love him while we may,
and for the happiness we've known
forever grateful stay.
But, should thy Angels call for him
much sooner than we planned,
we'll brave the grief that comes
and try to understand.

Light, love and prayers to you all.
