Janet Withington Obituary

HILLSBOROUGH – Janet Withington, 67, of Hillsborough, passed away at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon on Saturday night, Nov. 21, 2015, from injuries received earlier that evening in an automobile accident on Route 9 in Antrim that also took the life of her husband James "Jim" R. Bouchard.

Janet was born in Peterborough, in 1948 to Richard and Mary Withington. She grew up in Hillsborough Center with her older sister and two younger brothers. After graduating high school she briefly attended Bennington College in Vermont to study art before moving to Maine to earn her nursing degree from the University of Maine at Augusta. Returning to New Hampshire, she briefly worked at Peterborough Hospital before resettling in Hillsborough Center and working in the downtown Hillsborough Medical Center from its inception in 1978. She eventually followed the practice to Hopkinton and ultimately to the present location of the Concord Hospital Family Tree Health Care Facility in Hopkinton where she continued to work selflessly as a nurse until her untimely death. Janet's kindness, devotion and professionalism were greatly admired and respected by both patients and coworkers alike.

A true care giver, Janet frequently called on elderly or ill neighbors to offer her assistance. She was also very active with the upkeep of Hillsborough Center where her family's roots run deep. She was a generous person who quietly donated to numerous causes. She was also a devoted mother, an avid gardener, an exceptional cook and doted on her beloved cats.

Janet was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Withington in 1980; by her father, Richard W. Withington in 2008 and by her loving husband, Jim, who died earlier the same evening at the scene of the automobile accident.

Janet is survived by her sister, Nancy Bell of Tennessee; her brothers, Richard Withington Jr. of Antrim and Robert Withington of Portsmouth; several nieces and nephews; her son, William Guinn of Concord; her husband Jim's daughter, Michelle Zvonkovic and Michelle's two children, Spencer and Cecilia, all of Connecticut.

A private graveside service will be held for family members at the Hillsborough Center Cemetery. The public is invited to pay their respects to Janet and her husband Jim anytime between 1 and 4 p.m. at the Center Club House in Hillsborough Center on Saturday, Dec. 12th.

The Holt-Woodbury Funeral Home & Cremation Service Hillsboro, is assisting the family.

Memorial donations may be made to the Hillsborough Center Preservation Fund, c/o Town of Hillsborough, PO Box 7, Hillsborough, NH 03244. This fund has been established in memory of Janet and her husband Jim to assist in the maintenance of the historic buildings and grounds which they unselfishly helped to maintain.

Donations may also be made to the Janet Withington Scholarship, c/o Concord Hospital Family Tree Health Care, 19 Farrington Corner Road, Hopkinton, NH 03229 to help establish a nursing scholarship in Janet's name at St. Anselm College in Manchester where Janet often attended continuing education classes to keep her nursing license current.

Not sure what to say?

December 11, 2015

Our sincere sympathies to the families of both Jim and Janet. We never had the pleasure of knowing them personally but we did have the honor of meeting Janet's son, Willie. He was the best man at my niece, Megan Hobbs' wedding to Jason Richard. Janet, you raised a fine young man. Job well done. I wish we had met in person. God bless all the family and friends that loved you and will miss you so much. Pat & Ron Hobbs

Janet, what a pioneer girl!
Janet would have Wednesdays off and would see she and Jim riding together in the truck doing jobs for others.
When walking past their home early morning the stove would be on and the wood smell would be in the air.
She kept her home as it had been years before..that old charm...that wonderful touch and greeting.
I always laughed coming around the corner and seeing her mowing the lawn by hand in the front yard. She would be such a tiny girl behind the mower and give a wave to Alvin and myself walking by.
I will miss that natural spirit, that down to earth spirit that everyone feels so connected to.

Janet was truly my Angel.Seemed when things were just not going well for me, she knew just what to say to give me hope, a kind word, a simple gesture. We have truly lost an Angel and I am sure she is trying to help us all cope, in our sorrow. Sincerely

Janet was an amazing nurse. On any given day she would make you feel that you were the most important patient she had. The void she leaves behind will be difficult to fill.
