Linda Kent Obituary

WEARE – Linda Lee Kent, of Weare, died Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016, in Concord, after a valiant struggle with cancer. She was the daughter of Donald W. and Barbara Moody Kent formerly of Danvers, Mass. She was born in 1951 and attended Danvers Public schools. Linda loved learning and following her graduation from Framingham State College, she acquired a masters degree from LSU in Baton rouge, La. and then her Ph.D. in cultural anthropology at the U of Oregon in Eugene. She had a great interest in the Gypsies in Boston and the Tinkers in Ireland. In addition she earned two other masters degrees, one in Human Services Administration from Antioch U, Keene, and one in Library Science from Simmons College, Boston. In the 1980's she was the Exec. Director of Youth Services in the Monadnock Region. Recently, she had retired as a research librarian at the State Library in Concord. She loved teaching and taught Women's Studies, Cultural Anthropology and Native American Studies at the college level.

Linda enjoyed traveling, particularly in Ireland and Scotland amongst early anthropological sites. One of her favorite trips was in honor of Robert Burns, she traveled with a group in Scotland led by Jean Redpath, the famous Scottish singer. Linda had a lovely singing voice, performing with various chorales during her life and could whistle like a virtuoso and play the accordion.

Braiding beautiful rugs was a skill at which Linda excelled; her braiding group gave her great support and camaraderie.

Linda leaves a large family of Moody and Kent relatives, her uncle, Dr Robert Moody of Florida, and many cousins, nieces and nephews and their families. She also leaves her beloved dog, Belle. Family reunions were an important part of her life as well as sharing family history and stories. She also leaves many dear friends and neighbors in Weare and nearby communities who loved Linda and did a great deal with and for her.

Arrangements will be at the convenience of the family and have not been finalized at this time. For more information or to sign an online guestbook please visit frenchandrising.com.

Linda was a great friend and my Soul Sister. I met her in 28 years ago through Monadnock Area Women (MAW) when I moved to Keene to attend Antioch New England. We took many walks on the old railroad bed below her house and up to the ridgetop, accompanied by Atthis, my Australian Shepherd. West of Keene we had a special high hill to watch the Full Moon rise.
We had some great adventures: dancing in Brattleboro; trips to Lake Champlain and Maine Light Houses; Cumberland Island and the Okefenokee Swamp in Georgia; and Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge in New Mexico.
She received her cancer diagnosis just a few weeks before I received mine. I told her we would go through cancer together. She will always be in my heart as a kind and gentle soul.
