Lloyd Bennett Obituary

Lloyd Clayton Bennett

Lebanon, NH - Lloyd went on his final journey on February 14th, 2023, after a period of declining health. He was born in Grafton, NH on May 3, 1931, the son of Royal J. and Lula M. (Riddle) Bennett. He graduated from Lebanon High School in 1949 and served in the US Marine Corps from 1952 – 1954. For a brief time after high school before entering the Marines, Lloyd worked for Davis Woodworking in Grafton and after his duty in the service was employed by International Shoe in Manchester from 1954 – 1964. Lloyd married Virginia (Ginny) (Ford) Bennett of Danbury on August 5, 1956. The family moved to Lebanon in 1964 where he began working for Mascoma Savings Bank, first as a teller (as only the seventh employee of a small local mutual savings bank) and working his way up through different positions to retiring in 1993 as the Vice President and Senior Loan Officer. Before and primarily after retiring, he and his wife wintered in New Port Richey, FL from 1988 – 2015 at their second home.

Lloyd was an active member and served on the Board of Governors for many years at the First Congregational Church of Lebanon. Lloyd was also very involved in many civic organizations, including the Lebanon Alumni Association (as the Treasurer for many years), the Lebanon Chamber of Commerce, the Lebanon Citizen Scholarship Fund (Dollars for Scholars) Board of Directors, Upper Valley March of Dimes Board of Directors (and as Treasurer for many years), Lebanon Lions Club (as the Treasurer for many years), Hartford/Lebanon Elks Clubs, Lebanon Outing Club, and Whaleback Ski Club, as well as many different scholarship selection committees. He was a quiet and modest leader and, in 1981, was awarded the Bi-Centennial Good Citizenship for his many untiring civic contributions for the City of Lebanon. Years ago, he enjoyed playing baseball in the Town Leagues, skiing with the family, and more recently loved playing golf at their Florida housing development's courses and in the Upper Valley "Grasshoppers" group. He also loved traveling with family and friends throughout the years with many trips throughout the US, Canada, and the Caribbean, as well as spending summer vacations on the Maine Coast. He and Ginny were also members of the Platinum Passport Club through the Mascoma Bank and began their many traveling adventures in 2002 and visited memorable destinations including, Ireland, England, Scotland, Italy, Panama Canal, Hawaii, the Canadian Rockies, and the Pasadena Rose Bowl Parade, just to name a few of the locations.

He is predeceased by his parents, siblings and their spouses, Arleen (Tom) Neill, Winnifred (Harry) Sargent, and Cecil James (Toni) Bennett. Members of his family surviving include his wife, Ginny; a brother Eldon Bennett of Grafton; a daughter Sharon and her husband Phillip Packard of Candia, NH; a son Brian and his wife Lisa of Bow, NH; four grandchildren/spouses, Justin (Sandra) Packard, Mathew (Rachel) Packard, Heather (Matthew) Bright and Carter Bennett; seven great grandchildren Noah and Chase Packard, Corban, Devin and Daylia Packard, and Lillian and Amelia Bright; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to recognize the compassionate care and personal attention from the entire Bayada Hospice group, but primarily his caregiver team of Lisa, Danielle, Shane, Jen and Tina. In honor of their outstanding service, memorial contributions may be made to Bayada Hospice, 316 Main Street – Unit EH-6, Norwich, VT 05055.

Friends may call at the Chadwick Funeral Home, 235 Main Street, New London, NH on Friday, February 17th from 5 – 7 PM. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 18th at 11 AM, at the First Congregational Church of Lebanon, 10 South Park Street, Lebanon, NH. A family burial will be held in the Spring at a later date at Pine Grove Cemetery, Grafton, NH.

Dear Ginny and family, I just saw this and I am so sorry for loss. I so enjoyed working with Lloyd. He taught me so much and he had had the ability to make people laugh. Thinking if you and your family.

I met Lloyd Bennett when I walked into MSB at lunch hour one day - 1985. He was the only one around, could probably tell I was upset. Recently divorced with 3 children, I'd been renting a small house and was being evicted by MSB as they were foreclosing. He was so kind. I ended up buying that little house and I never forgot Mr. Bennett. My sincere condolences to the family.

Sympathies to the Bennett family. He was such a joy to be around. My mom thought the world of him as a good friend from the bank. He would always help her when needed. Rest in Peace dear friend.

Lloyd was one of the most pleasant people I have ever met. He was always so friendly, witty, and kind. The love he had for his family and friends was obvious to anyone who spent any amount of time with him. I got to know Lloyd through the Soule family and quickly realized what a special person he was. I know he will be missed by so many. My heart goes out to all of you, love Lisa

Lloyd was one of the kindest individuals you will ever meet. He was such a huge part of our family. I couldn´t have asked for a better father in law for my sister, Lisa. Many great outings with Lloyd and Ginny which will leave ever lasting memories. RIP. Bill Soule

Working with Lloyd was such a pleasure. The wisdom and common sense that he brought to his job and passed on to those of us that he mentored was invaluable. His sense of humor brightened many a work day. I have many treasured memories. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
