Lois Higman Obituary

Lois "Sandra" Higman

Pembroke, NH - Sandra Higman graced our world with her selfless, unconditional love for 83 years. She left us January 14th at Granite VNA Hospice House in Concord due to complications from colon cancer.

Sandra was born March 3, 1940 in the home of her parents Louis and Marguarite Morrison in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia Canada. She was the fourth of six children. Her childhood was spent near the ocean where her family lived. Upon graduating high school in Sydney, NS she moved to Halifax, NS to attend secretarial school and graduated as a clerk / stenographer / typist.

Sandra had an urge to travel, so she enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force as an office clerk, attaining the rank of Leading Air Woman. After a couple of assignments in Canada, she was transferred to Metz, France. There she met a US soldier, Frederick C Higman. He fell in love with her the first time he saw her. It took him a couple weeks to convince her to go on a date. A year later , June 22, 1963 they were married , and spent the next 60 years together.

Fred's military career took them to the US, with many relocations. Fred was deployed to Vietnam, and Sandra stayed home with two children. By the time they were married 10 years, they had four children. Sandra was a devoted mother to her children, teaching them to to love, learn, and laugh and care for each other.

When the children were grown, Sandra was employed by Fern's Oil Co., and Carlson's Auto Sales as an office clerk. She and Fred were involved with their church for over 40 years. Sandra and Fred attended Zion Ministerial Institute together for two years. Upon graduation in 2001, both received The Diploma of Ministry. They were called to be Missionaries, and located to Ghana, West Africa for two years. Upon their retirement, they settled in Pembroke.

Sandra is survived by the love of her life, Frederick C Higman of Pembroke, and her four children.

Son Geoffrey and Ronda Higman of Loudon. Their daughter Hillary and Aaron Garofalo and children Theo and Griffin Garofalo of Laconia. Their son Benjamin and Michelle Higman of Loudon. Their son Daniel and Emily Higman and daughter Daisy Higman of Somersworth. Son Christopher Higman of Concord. Daughter Anita Higman of Concord, her daughter Abigail Lynch and fiance Gabe Young of Manchester. Daughter Sybil Higman Desilets and her husband Mike, their children Lillian Vezina and Jacob Desilets of Concord.

The family can not express enough gratitude to the staff and nurses at Granite VNA Hospice House in Concord. They are truly angels on earth! Please consider a donation in Sandra's honor.

At Sandra's request, there will be no services. The family will have a private ceremony.

Sandra was very strong, spiritual, smart, witty and fun. Most of all she was devoted to her family. She loved all of her babies, and taught them to love unconditionally like she did. Her family has a very deep connection, and she instilled that in us so that we can carry on with her in our hearts. There is no painful loss, only Glory in life ahead!

Fred ans family, I often think of Sandra and Fred. How they were often an encouragement to my husband and I while at ZMI. I still pray for Fred as I know how much he misses Sandra. Praying for comfort as this memory comes but know the Lord sees us through. Blessings I remember her smile and laugh.

My prayers are with you all in your sorrow as Sandra has gone home to be with the Lord. The assurance of a Siritual life is that death is not an ending, but a transformation to a better world. I attended Faith Tabernacle and one of the last messages I listened to there was preached by Fred. I still have notes in my bible from that message and have used them many times. It is dated 7-23-2000. Sandra was a lovely person and I pray for you all as you grieve not having her in your presence.
