Contoocook, NH — Lorraine D. Smith passed away on August 11, 2022 after a fierce battle with cancer. She passed peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family.

Lorraine was born December 18, 1935 in Concord NH to Leroy C. Smith and Eugenia V. (Lessard). Smith of Contoocook, NH and was the middle child of seven children. She was predeceased by her brothers, Robert Smith, Orris Smith and Dean Smith

Lorraine is survived by her brother Erwin W. Smith of Webster NH, her sisters Geraldine D. Dean and Virginia G. Kelley both of Concord NH, her Significant Other for more than 30 years, Lloyd E. Axelson and their dog Willie of Contoocook, NH. She will also be greatly missed by all of her many nieces, nephews, cousins and neighbors.

Lorraine was a devoted daughter, sister, partner and attentive loving Aunt. Aunt Rainie invited her nieces and nephews during the Hopkinton Fair each year to stay at her house, when they were growing up. Fair time was something they looked forward to all year; a fun filled Labor Day weekend of fair food, exhibits, farm animals, amusement rides and exploits.

Lorraine was a 1954 graduate of Hopkinton High School and 1958 graduate of University of New Hampshire. She worked for HMC Corp, Wick Building, NH National Guard and retired from the State of New Hampshire as a purchasing agent. Lorraine lived in Contoocook throughout her life and resided in her childhood home gathering her family for holiday dinners, fresh baked pies, cakes and strawberry short cake. She loved to bake, travel to visit her nieces in California and Arizona, and spend time with her family and longtime friends. Lorraine also enjoyed scenic car rides with Lloyd and their dog Willie to visit Axelson family both local and in North Dakota. Lorraine was expert at needlework and crochet; her family and friends have been blessed with many beautiful crochet and cross stich works of arts that they treasure.

The Holt-Woodbury Funeral Home & Cremation Service is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that you donate to the Granite VNA Hospice, 30 Pillsbury Street, Concord NH 03301. The Visiting nurses and hospice staff provided amazing support and care and to Lorraine and her family. The Hospice staff allowed Lorraine's family to honor her wishes to care for her in her home.

A graveside service will be held at Contoocook Village Cemetery in Contoocook, NH on September 24th at 11:00 am.
