Melvin Blais Obituary

Melvin C. Blais

Suncook, NH — Mr. Melvin C. Blais, 82, of Suncook, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the Forestview Manor in Meredith on November 28, 2021 after a period of declining health.

Born in Concord, Melvin was the son of the late Albert L. and Blanche B. (Boudria) Blais. He was raised in Suncook and resided there for the better part of his entire life. He attended St. Jean-Baptiste School and graduated from Pembroke Academy and later obtained his Bachelor's Degree.

Mel enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1961, proudly serving his country for over three years prior to his honorable discharge in 1965. During that time, he served as a member of the Strategic Air Command and as an administrative assistant to the wing commander as well as serving as a translator.

With his extensive background, Mel was employed as Employment Manager for the former Chicopee Manufacturing Co. from 1966 to 1975. He also worked as a personnel recruiter for Johnson & Johnson. He later matriculated to the former Suncook Bank and subsequently retired from Bank North following 26 years of service in banking. Upon his retirement, he was employed at Sears in Concord for several years as well as the State Liquor Commission.

Mel had a variety of interests as shown through the different facets of his life. In his early years, his musical talent surfaced with lead roles in High School performances. His ice skating abilities enabled him to produce outstanding ice skating shows at St. Jean-Baptiste Skating Rink. He enjoyed traveling to Canada for annual gatherings and association meetings of L'Association Des Blais D'Amerique, a genealogical association founded in Quebec, of which he was a member. He was a faithful communicant of St. John the Baptist Parish and was an honorary life member of the Fr. Routhier Council #4666 Knights of Columbus. He served as Past President of the Manchester Ski Club. He was Past President of the Manchester Personnel Club and held the distinction of accepting the first New Hampshire Chapter Charter from the American Society of Personnel Administration.

In addition to his parents, Mel was predeceased by his two brothers, Normand A. "Bosco" Blais and Royal A. Blais.

He is survived by his sisters, Constance Perron of Wells, ME, Joan Bussiere of Manchester and Joyce Belanger and her husband Gerald of Laconia. Uncle Mel will be sorely missed by his countless nieces and nephews who he treated as his own children.

Calling Hours will be held on Friday, December 3rd from 4 to 6 P.M. in the Petit-Roan Funeral Home 167 Main St. in Pembroke. Mel and I dated for 2 years when he was in the Air Force. He was so much fun and full of mischief and my whole family loved him. Rest in peace dear, sweet Mel.

Mel was a friend and a former co-worker. I enjoyed his stories and his robust laughter. He was one of my favorite people. Condolences to his family.

Melvin was my friend, I would go see him once a week, occasionally taking him for rides or out for lunch until the covid hit, then the nursing home would not let me in. Rest in peace Melvin, I'll see you on the other side.
