Nancy Scannell Obituary

Nancy Scannell

Concord , NH - Nancy Lea Scannell was brought into this world by her beautiful "mum", Winnie Sinnet, on 5/24/39 in Concord, NH. In her final days of "Comfort Care" in Burlington, VT with her daughters Suzanne Scannell and Kelly Scannell by her side, she fittingly, on her terms, passed away on Good Friday, 4/7/23, to Donna Summer's classic 70's Disco song, "Last Dance."

She was a graduate of Concord High School and Forsythe School of Dental in Boston. She was a dental hygienist for over 50 years, where she worked with her dear "office girls". She heard and held all her patients' stories, and gave them advice and support while reminding them to floss more often.

Nancy was part of several wonderful communities. She had a special relationship with the Carmelite Sisters of Concord; she volunteered at the food pantry at Immaculate Heart of Mary where she met an amazing group of friends she called "her pantry girls"; she was a proud member of the Sweet Adelines Profile Chorus where she and her wonderful friends sang their hearts out. She had immense gratitude for nature and made lifelong incredible memories with the group of friends from "Always an Adventure." She shared amazing times with friends traveling, doing bike trips, taking nature walks, doing yoga, hanging out in her happy places on Long Sands Beach in York, Maine and Bar Harbor, Maine and her most favorite thing, kayaking in her boat named "Harmony." She was truly at home and at peace on the water.

She was predeceased, held and influenced by the triad of matriarchs, Aunt Tudgie Donahue and Aunt Gert Gagne and her "mum" Winnie, who modeled for Nancy her fierce independence, courage, strength, resilience, and Big Love. She is survived by her loving little sister, Betty Smith and her dear brother-in-law, the late Harvey Smith, her niece Kim Smith, and nephews Andy Smith and Mark Smith, her best friend, Paulette Tanguay, and her dear close-knit cousins: Dickie and Chickie Gagne, Tommy Gagne and the late Sue Gagne, Susan Gagne Earnst and the late Jim Earnst, Joanne Russman, Judy Ferraro, Paul and Lexi Donahue, and the late Jackie Donahue and Sandy Donahue.

In lieu of flowers, offerings can be made to any food bank in your local area. You can also keep Nancy's kind, loving spirit and spunk alive by reaching out to an old friend, sharing a smile with a stranger, baking some sweets for your loved ones, having a sprinkle of wine, or eating some ice cream.

A funeral Mass will be held on her 84th birthday, May 24th, 2023 at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Concord, NH with a burial to follow at Concord Calvary Cemetery. A big celebration of her life will follow the services.
