Paula Scanlon Obituary

Paula Ekstrom Scanlon passed away peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016. She was 78 years old.

She was born in Brockton, Mass., attended Brockton High School and graduated from Bridgewater Teachers College. She became a 4th grade school teacher and taught in both Brockton, Mass. and Teaneck, N.J. before leaving to raise her three children. She often talked about her former students and found that teaching had been a very rewarding time of her life.

Paula spent most of her adult life living and raising her family in Concord. She spent her retirement years with her husband, Andrew, in Southern Pines, N.C. before returning to Concord.

Paula was extremely active throughout her life. She loved the outdoors, being in the sunshine and days at the beach. Paula enjoyed traveling, exercising, playing golf, and she was a wonderful cook. She also loved to play games, was an avid reader, and looked forward to doing the NY Times crossword puzzle. Paula was a devoted mother, spouse, sister, aunt and a loyal friend. She touched the lives of many people.

Her survivors include her husband, Andrew Scanlon of Canterbury; her children, Christopher Ekstrom of Rye, Ben Ekstrom of Wolfeboro and Heidi Whipple of Barton Vt. She also leaves several grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. She will be greatly missed.

A private family memorial service will be held in Canterbury in the spring.

Paula was one of the most vibrant woman I ever met!! Her enthusiasm was infectious and she gave all of herself to her friends and family. She taught the aerobics class at Alton Woods for many years and was a special person. My sympathies go out to her family.

One of my mom's dearest friends. They are together again to watch over their children and grandchildren. I will remember walks to Whites Park, playing games and having lunch in the black and white kitchen. My prayers are with the family at this sad time.
