Philip Theopold Chaplin

Strafford , NH — Philip "Phil" Theopold Chaplin, after being admitted to Douglas-Wentworth hospital in Dover, NH for a sudden and severe case of pneumonia, was promptly transferred to Brigham and Women's hospital in Boston where he fought to recover for weeks before passing away on February 19, 2022 at the age of 68 due to complications from the infection.

Born in Quantico, VA to retired Col. Duncan D. Chaplin, III and Ann Huntington (Theopold) Chaplin, both of Dedham, MA, he grew up on Marine Corp. bases around the country until attending Phillips Academy in Andover, MA and then Stanford University in California, where he met his wife, and love of his life, Mary Ellen "Mel" (Chavez) Chaplin of Albuquerque, NM.

After completing their Bachelor's degrees, Phil and Mel moved back east in 1978 where they settled and built a life together in Boston, and where he began his successful career as a Trustee and CFA.

At the time of his death, he was owner and Director of the private wealth management firm, Truehand, Inc.

When not in the office or poring over The Wall Street Journal, Phil could most likely be found tending to his extensive vegetable gardens and his beloved trees, or chopping wood at his home in Strafford, NH.

In addition to his loving wife, Philip is also survived by his two children Christina E. Chaplin and Jeremiah J. Chaplin, and his grand-daughter Evelyn.

His family will hold a memorial service on April 30, 2022 at 2pm at First Church and Parish in Dedham, MA.
