Richard Willoughby Obituary

Richard J. Willoughby, Sr

Bradford, NH - Dick Willoughby, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on March 17, 2023.

Born on July 19, 1938, in Lancaster, NH, Richard was the son of Donald and Mary (Foy) Willoughby. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Judy (Waters) Willoughby, for over 60 years. Together, they raised four children: Christine Tourgee (Brian Tourgee), Susie Loveland (Jonathan Loveland), Richard Willoughby, Jr., and Will Willoughby (Kim Willoughby).

He was blessed with nine grandchildren: Heather Tourgee, Michelle Tourgee, Andres Tourgee, Helen Willoughby, Jessica Willoughby, Stephanie Willoughby, Rebecca Cote (Aaron Cote), Jillian Willoughby, and Jack Willoughby.

As a distinguished chemical engineer, Richard had an esteemed career working at AT&T, General Electric, Western Electric, and Raytheon. He was a graduate of New England College. He also earned his master's degree in chemistry at the University of New Hampshire, and his master's in theology and biblical studies at Episcopal Divinity School, Cambridge, MA.

He authored several books, including Paul and Revelation, Paul and the Dispersion, and the four-volume Paul: The Apostle to the Jews.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Richard enjoyed golf, chess, and classical music, with Mozart being his favorite composer. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and could often be found attending New Hampshire Fisher Cats games.

Richard was a thoughtful man with a quirky sense of humor and will be missed by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Bradford, NH, Rescue Squad at PO Box 203, Bradford, NH 03221 in Richard's memory.
