Steven MacRae Obituary

Steven MacRae

Webster, NH - Steven Douglas MacRae, 77, died Friday, September 12th, 2025, at the Jack Byrne Center in Lebanon, NH. He was born on August 12th, 1948, in Barrington, RI, the son of Douglas Everett MacRae and Shirley H. MacRae (Stubbs). He was the husband of Kathy Larson MacRae (Larson). They were married on August 30th, 1969, in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Steven grew up in Barrington, RI, but moved to South Carolina to attend college. He was studying geography at the University of South Carolina when he met the love of his life, Kathy, who had been studying at the university as well. Their story may have started in a lunch line one afternoon, but Steven and Kathy would go on to spend 56 years of marriage together. They had three children: Shawn, Brian, and Shannon, who were their pride and joy.

After earning his bachelor's degree, Steven would move to Michigan to obtain his master's degree in geography. He spent most of his life working as a stockbroker. He worked for Paine Webber, Merrill Lynch, and retired working for Morgan Stanley. He also served in the national guard.

Steven and Kathy have been at their horse farm in Webster, NH, together since 1982. They shared a love for their horses; having owned many, but Billy will always have been Steven's favorite horse. You could always find Steven and Kathy outside. They enjoyed each other's company and going on hikes.

Steven also participated in bike racing, played with his soccer team in Concord, NH, and loved playing polo. When his children were younger, he was always encouraging them to play different sports and would coach the teams they were on. Steven was a bright and loyal husband, father, and friend, who was very giving to his communities and to all those around him. No one could ever forget his sense of humor, and he could always make you laugh.

Steven was a leader at the First Baptist Church in Concord, NH. Being devout in his faith meant everything to him. There were many missions trips that he had gone on. He had gone to Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, and many other places. He and his wife, Kathy, both shared their faith.

He is survived by his wife Kathy MacRae of Webster, NH; sons Shawn MacRae of Gunnison, CO, and Brian MacRae of Bardonia, NY; daughter Shannon Kubiak (MacRae) and Kirk husband of Bluffton, SC; grandchildren Jackson MacRae, Jacob Bailey, Kirk Bailey, and Gabrielle Ward and her husband, Brad; and many other loving family and friends.

Assisting the family with arrangements is the Cremation Society of NH. Services will be held at a date to be determined.

Yesterday

I remember Steve as an outstanding tennis player. He played at Bow Brook in Concord and at the Racquet Club in our afternoon group. He was as tall as I was short. He always affectionately called me Jimmy. A truly outstanding principled kind guy. I am so sorry.Condolences to his lovely family. Jimmy Cassidy
