Sue Manning Obituary

DUNBARTON – Sue Manning passed away Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017, lovingly surrounded by her husband and family in the ICU at Concord Hospital.

She was born on Aug. 7, 1949, in Detroit to Jacques and Keitha Weston. She grew up in Michigan and graduated from Central Michigan University in 1971 with a dual major in Biology and Psychology. A lifelong hippie at heart, after college she packed up and followed her brother, Rick Weston, to New Hampshire to continue her life's journey bringing with her dear friends and eventually her parents. Sue settled in Dunbarton where she made a little house a home full of love, music and great parties! Graduating from the Concord Hospital School of Nursing in 1976 she began her professional career in the Intensive Care at Concord Hospital which lasted until her retirement in 2014.

Sue was a Registered Nurse who was brilliant and confident, the right combination of tough and tender. She gave a piece of herself to each patient and family that she worked with and was the cornerstone of the nursing family on the Intensive Care Unit.  It seems only fitting that she passed in a place being cared for by nurses and physicians that she not only worked side by side with but that she trained, set and example for and cared deeply about.

Sue and her husband, Tom truly loved every single part of one another. Watching the two of them was always a blessing of honest love, respect and adoration. They opened their home to friends and family for Christmas Eve, Sunday football, afternoons by the pool and countless other times and Bluegrass music and great rock and roll were always playing. The Mannings loved to camp and spent many a long weekend at bluegrass festivals and campgrounds enjoying listening to music, and laughing with friends by the fire for hours. In their retirement they were able to spend weeks down in the Florida Keys exploring and meeting even more people and going on more adventures. Sue lived life to the fullest and prided herself in "not having any grown ups in our family". She taught everyone around her how to have a good time and how to enjoy a good party.

Sue was of a creative brain and spent time throughout her life making lamp shades, tie dyed clothing, beautiful quilts, grapevine wreaths and countless other projects. People close to her have something that she made them either recently or dating back to the 70's and they are all so valued because they were made with not only skill but an abundance of love.

Sue is survived by her loving husband, Tom Manning; and by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Jane and Eric Riggs of Bow, Tracy Sturdee of Pittsfield and Leslie and Steve Manning of Webster. She leaves cherished nieces and nephews, Shannon Weston and her partner, Bobby of Washington, Tracy Kate Tsouros and her husband, Mike and their children, Anna Sue and Tommy of Bow, Eric Riggs and his partner, Ichigo of Contoocook, Greg Manning and his children, Evie and Otto of Breckenridge, Colo. and Leah Manning and her husband, Nicholas of of Vail, Colo. She also leaves countless friends whom she considered family. She was predeceased by her parents, brother and her brother-in-law Scott Sturdee.

A celebration of Sue's life will be held on Friday, Nov. 10, at 11 a.m. in the Parish House at St Andrew's Church in Hopkinton.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Sue's name to the Dunbarton Fire Fighters Association, 1011 School St., Dunbarton, 03046 or to Bow Volunteer Fire Department INC, 10 Grandview Road, Bow, 03304.

Sue a nurse is an angel without wings...now you have your wings. Thank you my friend for the wisdom that you instill in others. Always a kind word when you saw doubt on my face. You definitely helped build the confidence needed as a critical care nurse. I always admired your tell it like it is attitude as we have that in common. I finally found my filter though as was needed. You're contagious smile will be missed but there is some comfort in knowing you will be looking down on all of us with love. Rest easy Sue you will forever be in our hearts. My deepest condolences to Sue's husband and family. Take care of each other as Sue would take care of you.

Thank you Sue for being a mentor both At a patient's bedside and life in general. You were passionate for life and enjoyed every minute of it! I will never forget the lessons you taught me about how to be a nurse and living life to the fullest! You will truly be missed. Any caregiver who has ever worked in the past 30 years at the Concord Hospital ICU has benefited from your knowledge as you have taught and mentored so many who stood to the challenge of being a critical care nurse. I am forever grateful to have had the opportunity to call you a colleague and a friend.

Sue your legacy will live on in each person you touched, each staff member you taught and got to laugh with. Your smile was infectous and you could make what seemed like a bad day, amazing good with a simple phase. You had that ability to help people be calm in the face of crisis. Countless lives are here today because of you. Rest in peace you will always be loved and remembered.

I am so sad to learn of Sue's death. I have so many great memories of our friendship through nursing school, the "70's and 80's." We lost most contact when I moved away but she remained always in my thoughts. Sue may you have one heck of a party where ever your soul may light. Tom, my deepest love and sympathy. Sue was one heck of a gifted woman. I was so lucky to have known her.

Oh our dear Sue, she was a sister of the sun who took the time over so many years to soothe a fevered brow. Now it is her turn to be rocked on the water as she finds her way & rows her boat ashore a sea of peace. We wish Tom, her family & friends to find solace & peace in the many memories we all share of her loving & caring ways.
