Tammy Matthews Obituary
Boscawen, NH — Tammy Lee Matthews, 62, of Boscawen, NH passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 24, 2022 at home, surrounded by family. She bravely overcame the challenges of breast cancer for 21 years. Tammy was born to Joyce Brooks Miller and Donald Miller March 9th, 1960.
After graduating from Merrimack Valley High School and Michael's School of Hair Design, Tammy married her soulmate, Dale Edward Matthews on August 8th, 1981. She spent the next 40 years with her husband in Boscawen. She worked as a hairdresser and later with her husband at the family business. Tammy's first daughter, Alexis Lee Matthews-Cheney joined the family story on January 11th, 1982. Her second daughter, Ashley Louise Poirier on February 8th, 1983 and third Anne Leah Knox on April 19th, 1986. Tammy loved spending time with her family.
Her passion's included but we're not limited to, babies, children, fairness, celebrations & holidays, beaches, Mexican food, gardening, cooking and humor.
She missed those who departed before her dearly; her mother Joyce, mother in law Kathleen, her grandparents & friends. Those family members left missing her dearly are sons in law, Jesse Cheney, Kyle Poirier, and Christopher Knox; her cherished grandchildren Ava, Claire, Kalli, Adelyn, Teagan, Isabella and Levi; sister in laws Deb and Elaine; sister Terri and brothers Tim and Todd and many nieces and nephews.
Smile at your neighbors, take good care of each other, be generous of heart and cherish your family.

I think of Tammy often, how she always put others before herself. How she would bring food for Kitty, or send Dale with food. Her visits always cheered Kitty. I hope Dale an the girls are doing well. Know that when someone leaves this earth, they are never gone, they live on in our hearts forever.

As Tam´s sister I am writing this to make people who don´t already know, aware of one of her many legacies. As you walk into the front entrance of Boscawen Elementary School, you will see a beautiful tiled mural on the wall directly opposite. This mural was created shortly after the school was finished. Tam was the volunteer leader of this amazing project, spending countless hours alongside the head Artist-in-Residence. Using her kind and gentle ways she encouraged and assisted many a BES student in creating their own personal tile, to be displayed for all to see. (And I know she tried her hand at a few herself!). As with many of her interactions, she instilled confidence and pride in those children, with a warm smile, easy laugh and the feeling of love that we all want and need. So, when and if you get a glance at or have the time to really examine that mural, know that my beautiful sister´s sun is shining through.

Tammy was so fun to grow up with. She always had a smile on her face with a giggle or laugh right behind it. She lived for her family and her "Loves". She had such positivity and determination to beat her cancer and she did time after time. I am so glad we got to reconnect in the last few years. Growing up with Tammy was a lot of fun. She always had a smile on her beautiful face and a laugh or giggle not far behind. As she battled her cancer, she had a positivity and determination that helped her survive against all odds. Her love for her family & friends fueled her determination to overcome the hurdles put in her way. I'm so lucky to have been able to reconnect with her in our later years and will cherish each and every memory we made together.
