Thomas McGahan Obituary

Thomas A. McGahan, Jr., 76, a resident of Dracut, passed away peacefully after a long battle with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia and the residuel effects of Covid-19 on Saturday, January 9, 2021, at a local healthcare facility. He was the beloved husband of Maureen H. (McNeely)(Harrington) McGahan.

Born in Woonsocket, RI on July 20, 1944, he was a son of the late Thomas A. and Viola E. (Wayland) McGahan.

Tom was a graduate of St. John's High School in Concord, NH and Concord Commercial College. He received a Degree in Business from Franklin Pierce College.

He was employed and retired from the Department of Transportation for the State of New Hampshire where he was the Director of Administration.

While living in Concord, NH, he served as School Board Member and was elected Chairman of the Board. He also volunteered for many years as a youth basketball coach.

A world traveler, Tom and Maureen took many trips throughout the United States and abroad. He was an avid New England Sports fan, and like a typical New Englander, he enjoyed a good lobster.

Very important to Tom was his Catholic Faith and he was a long time communicant of St. Francis Church in Dracut.

His favorite pastime was spending quality time with family and friends.

Tom's family would like to thank Dr. Eric Wong of the Brain Tumor Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center for the excellent care and compassion he showed Tom over his many years of treatment.

In addition to his wife Maureen he leaves five children, Jennifer McGahan Koon and her husband Bryan of Tallahassee, FL, Dennis P. McGahan of Boston, Mary Ann Sullivan and her husband Robert of Chelmsford, William F. Harrington and his wife Melinda of Newburyport and Kevin J. Harrington of Dracut; seven grandchildren, Luke McGahan Koon, Patrick Leary Koon, Jack Sullivan Koon, Jennifer Kellegrew and her husband Travis, Robert F. Sullivan, Alexis M. Harrington and Ashley F. Harrington; his siblings, Mary McGahan, David McGahan and his wife Andrea, Joseph McGahan and his wife Diane, James McGahan and his wife Cindy, all of Concord, NH and John McGahan and his wife Anne of South Boston; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Donna and Gerald McMahon of Dracut, Elaine and Charles McDonagh of Southampton, NY, and Paul and Melissa McNeely of Clearwater, FL; also many nieces and nephews. He was a son-in-law of the late Paul J. and Mary K. (Moynihan) McNeely.

McGahan - At the family's request, Funeral Services were held Privately. For those who wish, donations in his name may be made to: The Brain Tumor Center in care of Eric T. Maureen, Joe & Family - so sorry to read about Tom. Such a nice guy. It’s been a while, but we saw each other often when the kids were younger, and around the south end. Always friendly, and a great sense of humor. Just want to pass on my condolences. Thinking of you
