Virginia G. (Smith) Kelley

Contoocook, NH - Virginia G. (Smith) Kelley passed away peacefully on June 19, 2023 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Ginny, as she was known to family and friends was known for her kind, generous and loving nature.

Virginia was born November 23, 1937 to Leroy C. Smith and Eugenia (Lessard) V. Smith of Contoocook, NH and was one of seven children in a very closeknit loving family. Ginny had a lifelong loving close relationship with her brothers and sisters. She was predeceased by her brothers, Robert Smith, Orris Smith, Dean Smith, and her sisters Lorraine D. Smith & Geraldine Dean. Ginny was also predeceased by her daughter Kathleen V. (Seybold) Cahill and her husband Ernest L Kelley.

Virginia is survived by her children; Karleen G. Seybold of Lexington, KY, Kristeen M. Burgess and her husband James of Strafford NH, Donald H. Seybold, Jr. of Prague, Czech Republic and Darrin O. Seybold and his wife Mary of Cumming GA. She is survived by her brother Erwin W. Smith of Webster NH along with 6 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

Virginia Kelley was a 1956 graduate of Hopkinton High School and graduate of New Hampshire Technical Institute. Ginny grew up in Contoocook and lived for more than 50 years in Concord NH. She worked at home providing day care to children while her children were growing up and in grade school. She worked for the State of New Hampshire for 33 years; working at NH Unemployment, NH Hospital and retiring as an auditor for State of New Hampshire Highway system. Virginia was an active member and volunteer at Bow Mills Methodist Church and the Interfaith council in Concord.

Ginny was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother and loving grandmother. Family was very important to Ginny; she was close with her brothers and sisters coordinating regular family dinners; spending time doing puzzles and baking with her best friend and sister Rainie.

Ginny loved gardening, sewing, ceramics, baking and making her famous jams and jellies. She was beloved by her children and grandchildren. She traveled several times a year to Georgia, Arizona and California to visit her children and grandchildren as well as traveling on vacations to Florida and Hawaii with her family. Ginny and her sister Rainie took several memorable trips to Europe to visit her son in Germany and Prague. Ginny also traveled to China with her daughter to help bring one of her granddaughters to the US.

Mimi as she was known to her grandchildren was a fun and active grandmother. She enjoyed traveling to her grandchildren's school events, dance recitals, and soccer games. She loved swimming with her grandchildren at the lake, playing games, going for ice cream, taking them blueberry and strawberry picking, and trips to York Beach, Maine.

Ginny lived her last several years as a resident of Havenwood Heritage Heights Retirement community. Ginny was cared for by an amazing staff of healthcare workers that provided a loving and caring home to Ginny.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations in memory of Ginny to Havenwood Heritage Heights, Nursing Education Fund, 33 Christian Avenue, Concord, NH 03301.

A celebration of life will be at Bow Mills United Methodist Church, 505 South Street, Bow NH 03304 on Saturday July 8th at 10:00 am with a private family graveside service to be held at Contoocook Village Cemetery in Contoocook, NH.

The Holt-Woodbury Funeral Home & Cremation Service is assisting the family.
