William Rhoades Obituary

Mr. William Rhoades, 65, of Concord, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday, September 3, 2011 while at the Hyder Family Hospice House in Dover, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in New London, the beloved son of the late William and Ethelyn (Rounds) Rhoades.

If you knew Bill, then you would have heard him ask the question "Do you know Jesus?" His greatest passion was ministry. He had done jail and prison ministry for years, and loved doing Bible studies because his life was so transformed by his salvation in Christ. Bill was a hard working, self employed carpenter with a high work ethic. He was always caring for others and had a love of helping and teaching men the skills necessary to provide for their families. He passed his work ethic on to the men he taught.

He had an undeniable spirit that never allowed him to give up, which made many think of him as the "Energizer Bunny". He was always persevering through all of life's moments. He was truly a man of prayer and passion.

Bill will be remembered for his great sense of humor, encouragement of others and for being a loving and hardworking family man.

He is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Debbie (O'Brien) Rhoades of Concord; daughter, Danielle Mendum of New Hampshire; two step sons, Bill Barnard of England and Mike Barnard of Hagerstown, Md.; one step daughter, Angel Poisson of Lewiston, Maine; six grandchildren, Tyler and Bryce Fairhurst, Kiera Miller, Trysten, Dreiden and Irelynn Barnard; one brother, Jerry Rhoades of California; two sisters, Jeannie Young and Penny Rhoades both of Nevada; an Uncle Ken Rounds of Nevada; Aunt Betty Rounds-Williams of Tilton; cousins Wanda Smith of East Andover, Dawn Kinevitch of Pembroke; a niece, Brittany Kane of California; two nephews, Gregg Rhoades of California, Brandon Rhoades of Nevada and many Christian brothers and sisters in Christ.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother, Ronald Rhoades.

His Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September 10, at 6 p.m. at the New Beginnings Church of the Nazarene, 33 Staniels Rd, Loudon.

Childcare will be available.

The Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 172 King Street, Boscawen is in charge of arrangements.

Bill Rhoades was just such a nice man. He was quiet, but kind, and I was happy to see him every day he visited Concord Public Library. Sadly I just got to know him the tiniest bit at the end of his life. But I always sensed the kindness and deep beliefs he carried. I just loved seeing him come in. One, it was a testament to his determination to live his life to the fullest he could, for as long as he could. And two, most days I could coax a quiet smile out of him and sometimes even a comment or two. The day he told me he rode his bike to the library each day I was just blown away. He was a man in the fight of his life with his health and he was still visiting the library, by bike, as often as he could.

There are times in one's life when you know God has granted you the gift of knowing one of his own. I am so thankful for the blessing and the honor of getting the chance to know, just a little bit, Bill Rhoades.

My heartfelt prayers and sympathy to the entire family. I must have missed him the last time he was in. I wish I hadn't.

I would like to share my deepest sympathy to the family members of Bill. Surely we can all rejoice in knowing that God has welcomed Bill home and He has already spoken to Bill and said "Enter in and job well done." I only spoke with Bill several times, but those times were in regards to him helping those who had gotten out of prison and were starting a new life in Christ. I am sure there were those who let the Lord and Bill down, but there were also those men who became men of God, who served our Lord & Savior, through Bill's direction and faithfullness. We will all miss Bill, but God has welcomed him into His kingdom forever.
