Franklin Blackshear Obituary

Rev. Franklin Daniel Blackshear, Retired Senior Pastor of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church in Savannah, Georgia, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on January 24, 1936, he dedicated his life to the service of his community and the ministry.

Rev. Blackshear was a deeply respected figure within the Savannah area, known for his unwavering commitment to his congregation and the impact he made during his decades of pastoral work. His leadership at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church not only enriched the spiritual lives of his parishioners but also fostered a sense of community that will long be remembered.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, First Lady Ella Brunson Blackshear, who stood beside him throughout his ministry. Rev. Blackshear is also survived by his two daughters, Stephanie G. Blackshear of Herndon, Virginia, and Kimberly M. Blackshear of Savannah, Georgia, along with his son, Franklin D. Blackshear (Renee) of Chesterfield, Virginia. He cherished his role as a grandfather to five grandchildren and a great-grandfather to two great-grandchildren, who were an immense source of joy in his life.

Rev. Blackshear's legacy extends beyond his immediate family to a vast network of relatives, friends, and community members whose lives he touched with grace, compassion, and kindness. His contributions to the spiritual fabric of Savannah will continue to inspire all who knew him. As we reflect on his life, we celebrate the profound impact he made as a pastor, mentor, and family man.

Mr Blackshear was absolutely one of my dearest friends/mentor in high school at Beach high in the early 1970s. He will be missed and always fondly remembered!
