Steve Khatibi, 81, passed away on November 23, 2022 in Conroe, Texas. Steve was a devoted husband to Marie, loving father to his daughter, Lisa and son, Steve. He was also a revered teacher and mentor, as well as a successful entrepreneur. His fearless tenacity, intelligence, and sharp wit made him a force to be reckoned with. During the 18 years he taught physics at Conroe High School, his passion for the field and respect for his students had such a profound impact on many of them far beyond their years in his class. His thrill was running into his former students and hearing how they were doing. He almost always remembered their names. After retiring from teaching, Steve went full time into running Conroe Paper & Chemical (Now Crown Paper & Chemical) & Crown Building Services. His motivation was about more than money. It was his biggest joy to invest his knowledge and time in any way needed to help a customer. No request was too big for him, he was always willing to go the extra mile to be helpful.
Steve was born on February 21, 1941 in Tehran, Iran to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Khatibi. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marie Khatibi; son, Steve Winford Khatibi; daughter, Lisa Marie Powers and her husband Larry.
Steve had a Bachelor in Physics from Abilene Christian University, Master of Science degree in Nuclear Physics from Sam Houston State University. He always worked during school at Abilene Christian, sometimes 2 jobs. He was a store clerk and a cook at a BBQ restaurant while going to school full time. He even drove to New York City over summer break to paint commercial and residential buildings. He was a Teacher's Assistant while getting his masters at Sam Houston. He was a chemical engineer for Dresser Industries working on offshore oil rigs in the Gulf. He taught High School physics for 18+ years. He then founded and ran Crown Paper & Chemical building maintenance supply, Crown Building Services Commercial Janitorial Services, and Bond's Janitorial specialty floor care services. In business for 40 years. Steve was a longtime member of the Church of Christ and loved working in his garden and cooking. Everybody called him the boss, except to Marie he was just "Hun". The stories of determination from Steve's life show in all of his accomplishments. He will be missed by so many.
