Svyatoslav Borys Obituary
Svyatoslav "Sy" Borys, 90, passed away on January 1, 2022. He was born on November 21, 1931 in Peremyshl, Ukraine to Theodor and Theodora (Leskiw) Borys.
Sy grew up in Peremyshl but due to WWII eventually migrated to a Displaced Person camp in Munich, Germany where he graduated from gymnasium (high school) in April 1949 prior to immigrating to the United Sates (New York) with family in July 1949 where he became a naturalized United States citizen.
He graduated from St. Joseph's College (Rensselaer, Indiana) in June 1953 with a B.A. degree majoring in Economics and minoring in Political Science. At Saint Joseph's, Sy was a member of the Commerce and History Clubs and was a two-year delegate to the National Federation of Catholic College Students. He attended The City College of New York completing his master's degree Accounting coursework in 1961.
He married Lorenza "Laura" Bertolino on September 5, 1953 in Saint George Ukrainian Catholic Church in Manhattan, New York. They were married for 66 years living in Texas, Virginia, Massachusetts, and New York as well as Montreal, Canada and Frankfurt, Germany and visited multiple destinations together including Italy, France, Austria, and Egypt.
Most of all, Sy was dedicated to, and enjoyed spending time with, family - the beach being a favored destination.
As an international business consultant, Sy travelled the globe throughout his life working for various companies and with multiple governments where his multi-lingual skills were utilized. He was an avid reader - especially history - built an impressive library, and passed on this love to his children.
Sy was preceded in death by his beloved wife Laura, his parents, and his sister Theodora Storozynsky. He is survived by his children Theodor Borys (Melissa) of Berne, New York, Lisa Willis (Terry) of Bedford, New Hampshire, James Borys of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Peter Borys of Tomball, Texas; his grandchildren Tasha Borys, Leda Borys (Maggie O'Brien), John Willis, Paul Willis, Ryan Borys (Shay), and Christopher Borys; his great-grandchildren Oliver Borys and Noelle Borys; and his nephews, nieces, and other relatives.
Due to Covid-19, a service will not be held at this time. A celebration of life may be announced at a future date.
