Daniel Alonzo "Lonnie" Grider, a beloved father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend and resident of Russellville, Ark., passed into the arms of his Savior, on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2022, at the age of 77. He was born on Oct. 15, 1944, in Marvell, Ark., to Alonzo "Pete" and Ruth (Farmer) Grider.
He served honorably from 1965 to 1971 with the AR National Guard attached to 2/153 Infantry.
Blessed with a great sense of humor, he could light up a room with his presence. Dan loved to reminisce about old stories. The ability to remember specific details made those stories great. He enjoyed sharing these stories because these memories he treasured most were those made with people he loved.
His love for God and family were the two most important things to him. He was a loving father, faithful friend, and devoted husband. He was always there if you needed him. He was a constant, unwavering father to his four children.
They all knew they could count on him for moral support and guidance. The way he lived his life was by far his best testimony.
Dan is preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Nina (Grider) King.
Survived by his wife, Agnes (Hendon) Grider; sister, Phyllis (Grider) Copeland; daughters, Amy (Grider) Morgan and Marsha (Grider) Porter; sons, Dwayne Grider and Adam Grider; step-daughters, Rachel Spartz, Angel Parfait, Alison Frazier, Hope Williams, Jill Parfait, Faith Menton, Spring McCarthy; step-son Royce Parfait; eight grandchildren; 28 step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild, 15 great-step-grandchildren.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday at Roller-Citizens in West Helena. Officiated by Dan's nephew, Steven Copeland.
Paul bearers were Joey Crossland, Bayley Grider, Logan Grider, Stuart Porter, Benjamin Gray and Leroy Ruiz.
