2023
Doyle Gunter, age 91, of Dover, passed peacefully on Monday, October 23, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born March 4, 1932, in Russellville to Wiley and Sue Gunter.
Doyle graduated from Hendrix College in 1954, with a degree in Business Administration. While attending Hendrix, he was a multi-sport lettered athlete – football, basketball, and track. The week following graduation from college, he and Dora got married, and then he went on to serve two years in the Army.
Doyle was a kind, gentle and loving person who lived for his family and was a true and loyal friend, a genuine man of integrity. He was never a man of many words; he expressed his love through his actions.
He was a community-minded person, having done great work with many local charities, including Friendship, MARVA, Jaycees, and Kiwanis.
He had a passion for all kinds of music and would listen for hours to his favorites. His wife and children share fond memories of Sundays listening and singing to his wide collection of records. Doyle, too, was a musician, playing trumpet with his band, The Moonlight Serenaders.
Doyle loved the Razorbacks – win or lose – a forever fan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two most beloved dogs, Sissy and Ollie, who offered him great joy and comfort.
He leaves his wife, Dora Judkins Gunter, married 69 years; a daughter, Kim Oliver (Mike) of Palm Harbor, Florida; a son, Bud Gunter (Jeanene) of Dover; granddaughter, Rachael Kendall of Springdale; grandsons, Benjamin Gunter of Russellville, and Liam Gunter of Frederick, Maryland; great-granddaughter, Carrigan Kendall of Springdale; and a sister, Jane Daunhauer of Little Rock.
A celebration of life will be held from 4-6 p.m., Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at The Chapel at Dragonfly Farms, 3588 Broomfield Road, Dover, AR 72837.
Arrangements are under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.
