John Riley Phipps, age 75, of Russellville died Sunday, March 31, 2024, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center. He was born March 3, 1949, in Russellville to Theodore and Edna Nunley Phipps.
John graduated from Greenwood High School, he was in the Air National Guard for 7 years and graduated from Arkansas Tech University in 1978. He coached basketball and baseball for Morrilton High School. John opened up Phipps' unpainted furniture where he made most of the furniture himself. He was an insurance adjuster for Wardlaw adjustment company.
John loved being outdoors, fishing, hunting, or just being on the water at the Goosey Goose, his camp on the river. He loved practicing these skills with his two sons, but his greatest joy was spending time with his grandson, Cooper Riley.
In addition to his parents, Edna Nunley and Theodore Phipps; he was preceded in death by, his sisters, Mary Spivey, and Helen Huett.
Survivors include Brenda Lay Phipps; his two sons, Shawn Phipps (Jen Lefeure) and Jack Phipps (Sara Phipps); and a grandson, Cooper Riley Phipps.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Shinn Funeral Service from 5-6:30 p.m., with arrangements by Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.
