Samuel Etheridge Reeves, age 72 of Atkins, Arkansas, passed away February 15, 2024, after a brief illness. Sam was born on February 18, 1951, in Ripley, Tennessee to W.E. Reeves and Linnie Reeves. He grew up on the family farm where he learned many life skills and developed an extraordinary work ethic.
Sam graduated from Halls High School in 1969, and went on to further his education at Memphis State University, earning a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry and a Graduate Degree in Engineering, graduating with high honors. He went on to have an accomplished career in his chosen field working for several well-known companies including International Harvester and Bridgestone where he was awarded the prestigious CEO Award in 2003 for outstanding performance in the Russellville Plant. On the side, he dabbled in construction building numerous homes in the Memphis area over the years.
In 2000, Sam's job relocated him to Russellville, Arkansas where he met Sara. They married in 2006 and were blessed to share 18 wonderful years together travelling and entertaining. Over the years they made a host of friends near and far, many of whom are considered family.
Sam enjoyed travel, playing games, reading, building things and watching old westerns. If you knew him, you know he was a gentle soul, and a man of few words. He cared deeply for those he loved and always made sure you knew he was glad to see you. In parting from his presence, he would most often say "Take it easy" and looked forward to being together with you again. He will be missed by all.
Sam was a member of Rotary International, Lion's Club, Arkansas River Valley Gun Club, and Church of the Assumption in Atkins, Arkansas.
Sam is survived by his wife, Sara Bess Reeves; a daughter, Heather Reeves Mazzone (Mark) and one grandson, Malachi Mazzone of Memphis, Tennessee; a sister Jackie Woods of Jackson, TN and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Doug Reeves and a sister, Ann Archer. He also leaves behind his beloved fur babies, Augie, William and Snowball who were his steady companions.
A memorial service will be held March 7, 2024, at 4 p.m. at the Church of the Assumption, Atkins, Arkansas. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials in Sam's name be made to the Pope County EMS whose address is 3 County Complex Circle, Russellville, AR 72802.
