Joan Bryan Obituary

Joan Ann Carson Bryan

Joan Ann Carson Bryan passed away Sunday afternoon after a lengthy battle with heart and kidney failure. Joan was quite proud of her Carson heritage, a name familiar in the Lawrenceville, Princeton, and Trenton area. Joan was the youngest child of Coleman Appleton Gibbs Carson and Lillian Neuman Carson. Joan was a graduate from Rider University, and worked for 39 years as a Business Education Teacher at Collingswood Senior High School. She was quite active in numerous after-school clubs, including DECA club, Marching Band, and Football Athletics fundraising. Though she was small, she was a true force for feminism, having worked hard to obtain opportunities for Women in Business that were traditionally male roles, particularly in entry level work placements for her Juniors and Seniors earning work credit for Business Classes.

"Like other women who seek equality, the amount of trouble I cause is inversely proportionate to my physical size." In her free time, Joan volunteered at Emmaus Methodist Church of Smithville. Every Sunday she led the Sunday School classes, and taught the Summer Bible Camp. She was also involved in her grandchildren's Holiday programs and Cookie exchanges. Joan also loved Music, Musicals, Traveling, and Baking.

Joan is pre-deceased by her husband, Jay James Bryan who passed just one month ago. She is survived by her only daughter Marianne Seabert, her Son-in-law Andrew Seabert, and her grandchildren Skylar and Coleman Seabert, whom she absolutely adored. She is also survived by six nieces; Jane Kiernan, Carol Guralski, Elaine Dansbury, Lorraine Dansbury, Eloise Dansbury, Marian Stout, and numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Funeral services for Joan will be held on Friday at 1 PM at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville with the Rev Delloyd Green, Pastor of the Emmaus United Methodist Church of Smithville officiating. Burial will follow in the Lawrenceville Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 11AM to 1 PM at the funeral home. I just saw this. I had Joan for typing in HS and had the pleasure of seeing her as one of my patients years after. She was such a sweetheart. May she rest in peace and be rejoined with her husband. Till we meet again.
