Clyde Thompson Obituary

Clyde "Ribby" Clifford Thompson

Evansville, IN

Clyde "Ribby" Clifford Thompson, 77 was born in Evansville, to the late Herbert Jerry Thompson and Tyline (Parker) Thompson. Clyde attended Chestnut-Walnut and Lincoln Schools in Evansville as formal education, but Clyde never stopped learning. Clyde enjoyed history, science and auto mechanics and often watched tv, videos, read books, and magazines to increase his knowledge in each area.

Clyde received the nickname "Ribby" from a dear uncle. Many believed this was Clyde`s real name, because he was so fond of this nickname that he would introduce himself as such.

Ribby dedicated his life to Christ as a child, was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church and worshiped in his own nontraditional way each Sunday by watching Dr. Bobby Jones until his retirement leading him to follow the works of Pastor TD Jakes.

Ribby was employed at Whirlpool Corp. for 34 years until his retirement in 2005. Retirement and Ribby weren't a good fit for him so in 2006 Ribby joined the staff at Signature School as a custodian until 2010.

Ribby enjoyed music of all genres and types, but his jazz music moved his "soul". WUEV radio was his favorite station which was often playing on his radio collection along with his daily listen to Paul Harvey. Cheering for the home team was also a personal pastime Indianapolis Colts and Pacers. Win or lose he cheered for this beloved Indianapolis Colts and there was no other color besides Colts Blue.

When it came time to relaxing Ribby look forward to being outdoors on his riding mower for his nearly acre of grass, big garden, washing his car and manning the grill.

Ribby is survived by his sons, Clifford Gregory Thompson and Perry J. (PJ) McFarland both of Evansville; daughters, Latasha Thompson of Las Vegas, NV, Monich (Thompson) Carter, Tanya (Thompson) Cleckley both of Evansville, IN; daughter-in- law, Laurie Arnold of Smyrna, TN; 11 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren.

Ribby was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 47 years, Eva Jean (Dunkerson) Thompson; son-in-law, Christopher Carter.

Visitation will be from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 South Hebron. A funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm Tuesday at the funeral home with Reverend Adrian Brooks officiating.

I have no words. No matter how busy or crazy my day was at work he would always make me smile. He constantly reminded me why I do what I do. The world lost a truly remarkable man, but heaven gain the best angel! I will miss seeing him and Diamond. May you find comfort in your memories.
